If it were me, and I had the depth capacity that you have (double cab owners don't) I'd be looking at a couple of options.

The first would be the Dayton Reference 10". Great woofer and an even better price. It's a true sound quality woofer. If you're not just looking for BOOM BOOM and you want something that sounds nice this is a great option. Things like shorting rings in the motor really lower distortion and make this one a performer.
    http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=295-460

The next woofer you might look into is the JBL GTO. Good on price as well but it's really a performer as well. Great sound quality from a modestly priced woofer and it's quite efficient as well. Efficient means you'll get more sound off less power. Enclosure requirements are similar to that of the Dayton 10" above; .75cubic feet sealed will do very well in the truck.

Throw about 300watts at either of those woofers and you'll smile for sure :)

If you have limited space, Focal is the way to go.

Sound quality is so subjective. If your looking for just booming bass and loud sound go for anything in the local electronic shops like best buy etc.. If you want competition sound try focal brand subs and component speakers. They will cost you roughly $1000 plus your amp. You will spent a little more but the sound quality far surpasses anything Kicker alpine etc.. can produce. Make sure you sub box is sealed.

JL in a sealed box is what you want. Go 12" if you want it to hit lower Hz louder, or 10" if you want more punch.

Match the amp rating on the amp with the amp rating on the sub.

    Wire up and enjoy.

I have the Memphis Sclass 10" subwoofer and Sclass 500 amplifier and it sounds great! Clean sound and clean look. Not too much bass but worlds better than the stock sub that the trucks come with.

I don't think anyone on this board is ready to actually use a subwoofer like that properly; no offense. That's a very interesting little woofer that really isn't meant to be used solo unless it is accompanied by many brothers and sisters. But a setup like that would be $$$ :D

I agree, the 5" focal's is not what you want. Its used for smaller application were you can put 2 or more. 12" focal in a sealed box with the proper amp will punch you silly

    - K&N intake - Pioneer headunit - 2 Kicker 10" subwoofers & amp - Nokya Hyper Yellow foglights - 18" Magnaflow muffler - Bilstein 5100 shocks set to 0" - Eibach coil springs - 1.5" blocks in back
I have a double cab and want a setup that will go behind my backseat, what would be your suggestions? I probably lean more to the good range of bass than the hard hitting bass and I realize there are alot of details that would influence the suggestions but just in general what's your thoughts?

I guess one you detail you do need to know is that I'm looking to spend somewhere around $300, give or take $50 - I'm not looking for top of the line, just good quality for the money I'm looking to spend

There seems to be a lot of misconception in this thread according to performance of the subwoofer according to the size of the subwoofer. Let me be the first to tell you, with audio it's 10% equipment, 90% install. With your budget in mind, you might look for a small good amp that will probably run you about 150, so that leaves 150 for subwoofer w/ enclosure, plus 50 for installation wires.

One thing to know is that an enclosure is what makes the subwoofer be either clean sounding, loud and boomy, blending (this also goes along with tuning and front speakers). If you have any kind of wood skills or willing to learn how to build a box, then this is gonna be your best way as you can get exactly what ur looking for and sound 10x better than a prefrabricated box.

For a starter system i would suggest looking at Audioque's SD2.5 from http://www.audioque.com. They're 130 and sound better and louder than Alpine Type Rs to give you a comparison.

PM if you want further information :)
