Your going to get what you pay for. $350 for both will get you boom and no quality IMO. Find a Focal dealer and have a listen, you will change your mind real quick. Sealed box.

He can get out for $350 if he picks the right products and can build the box himself.

Different brands will focus on different sounds on their speakers and subs, for example brand 1 might give brighter sound on the music and lower vocals but brand 2 might give the vocals better. it's all in what you want. best advice i can give is to go out and hear as much as you can. i don't like alot of resonance in my bass so i'm getting a JL 8w3v3. smaller subs are tighter but might not be able to hit as deep as lows as a larger sub on the same level.

Biggest misunderstanding in car audio, along with capacitors. Smaller subs are not "tighter" or "faster". How a subwoofer will sound relies strictly to the box you put them in. Put that 8 in a bigger ported box than needed and tune it low and watch it produce those lows with authority. Put an 18 in a small sealed box and watch it hit every single note with precision.

    secret stuff.
This may sound lame as hell, but the best sub I ever had (got stolen) was an Earthquake Annihilator in a 7th order bandpass box with my trusty Kenwood KAC-823 bridged. Damn I miss that sub!
