After watching the movie 127 hours and realizing this could be me, I would like to purchase an all-purpose survival Multi-Tool. Realizing that Leatherman and/or SwissArmy may not necessarily be the best options, thought I would consult TacomaWorld for help. If you were stuck in the middle of nowhere/and or trapped under a rock and or being hunted by a bear or mountain lion, what is the best survival multitool, price not relevent?

Easy, 10mm socket, pretty sure it cures cancer as well.

If I’m stuck in the middle of nowhere being hunted by a bear it’s because something on my truck requires a 10mm bolt to be tightened.

After watching that movie, all he needed was a working communication device with gps.

but if price isn’t relevant, then an Apache attack helicopter should be at the top of your list.

By the reference, It would seem you are looking for a one piece pocket sized doohickey...
    Any specific parameters?
Why would a good Leatherman not fit the bill? Perhaps something with a wire saw for the bone?- but it would be hard to use with one arm...

What do you want the tool to do? Is it to fend off lions & bears or to fix things?

I have an old gerber that has served me well but I normally just carry a knife and leave the gerber in my truck. I'm a minimalist when it comes to every day carry items, just a pistol and a knife. My EDC gets me to my truck and the stuff in my truck helps me survive everything from being broke down in the middle of nowhere to a zombie apocalypse. In reality a plan with the skills & knowledge to execute is the best tool.

Everywhere I go, I always carry a good knife, plus my belt buckle has a few tools on it (including a 10mm)
I keep a few tools and a Gerber multi-tool in my truck as well...

In my experience, and in all of the classes I've been through similar questions arise. Below is what I've found to be the best survival tool known to man:

Knowledge of your environment, yourself, and taking time to develop and hone vaious skillsets will do more for you than any multi-tool.

These answers have been funny, but not actually helpful, which if you've been on the site for more than a day you probably expected.

Get the Leatherman Skeletool. It's a smaller thinner design so it's not as obtrusive carrying day to day.

Yup. As Robert Heinlein said in Starship Troopers: "There are no dangerous weapons; there are only dangerous men."

Classic and still as relevant as a small unit leadership read today as when it was written in 1959.

I got a few Gerber Diesels and Gerber MP600 used I like a lot. I keep tools in vehicles but I grab the multi-tools out quite often. They are too big for me to carry everyday in khakis but great to have close by.

It was required reading (among a lot of other books) when I was at The Basic School in Quantico back in 1982.

It was part of my reading in the Army as well. I went through Camp Upshur back in '75. Long story but ended up in Army ROTC and was commissioned in '77. :)

Might be the most useful, but definitely not the most reliable. Can never find it when you need it.

Eat n tool. I keep one in my truck, there have been countless times that I have had to use it for something (it has a 10mm wrench built in).
