I would say a Sig 229 with the 14 round clip so you can be sure he is dead.

yes the high sensitivity is the key. you want it to start chirping as soon as they walk by your car. I've seen cars that can feel the vibrations of shoes walking from over 10 feet away. I got double 5% all the way around with 20% down the entire front windshield with a fat 6 inch strip of 2% across the top, you cant see s*it inside even in broad sunny daylight, its like a black wall but I can see out perfectly fine. and at night its the same. my tint job is highly illegal but a great theft deterrant.

put a nra decal on your truck, seriously. If they know you have a gun they will go elsewhere for an easier target.

Window tint is also a good deterent, because if they can't see it, they won't be tempted

Custom body work...boat trailer came of hitch, hit tailgate and Rammed stick thru lower valance while towing boat....hmmm, Maybe I should get a new boat?!?
If it were me with your issue, I wouldn't have bought the HU and left the stereo stock. That being said, most of the guys are on the right track with the super sensitive alarm, I mean no one ignores those things that go off every 15 minutes (think "the little boy who cried wolf")

Over bolting it means maybe the thief doesn't get it or if he persistent enough he does...but at what cost? I mean have you ever seen the amount of damage tearing out a HU can do when it's installed to the nth degree? usually cost more to repair than the HU is worth.

BEST ADVICE: Don't put the stereo in the car! SECOND BEST ADVICE: Get the absolute best insurance policy you can and hope for the best.

Remember, we're all statistics in one form or another and as the saying goes...the 3rd time is a charm. (does that mean for you or the guy that gets that really sweet HU?)

    Good luck!

Exactly, if they can't see it they don't want it. So fix it so they cant see it. Through towel or something up on then dash liked you want to protect the dash from sun when you leave the truck and make sure it just happens to hang over the HU.

Tint and sun shade might also work.

    -Move somewhere else...

-Don't leave your vehicle unattended for long periods of time in high crime areas. I always feel really funny leaving my truck overnight anywhere except for my own garage.

    -Tint your windows

-Don't drive around letting people know you have a nice headunit

-If you live in a high crime area and don't want to move then just accept the fact it might get stolen, save some cash for those instances or lower your insurance deductable.

-Like others said, if a theif really wants your headunit they are going to take it regardless of having an alarm or not. Most of the time people ignore alarms going off anyways. I turned the shock sensor sensitivity down on my last car because I got tired of all the false alarms.

Can you get somesort of flip down HU cover so you can't see it? I take it the face doesn't come off on that one.

I had my stereo stolen out of my old XJ, and the cop said tint doesn't make much difference. They just shine a flashlight in the window and can see everything.

The best thing I think you can do is just get good insurance. Mine paid for a whole new stereo minus by $100 deductible. (I actually ended up with a better amp and HU.)

Well, if you can't find someplace safe to park it then how about attaching a bunch of razor blades in the back where someone is likely to put their hands when they reach in to grab it. At least then you would have the satisfaction of knowing they aren't going away without feeling some of your pain.
Yeah, I know it's a bit drastic. But I have heard of this before and if one of those fine punks cuts off a finger, at least you will be able to send the nub to the police for fingerprints.
Only down side I can see to this is it's unfortunate with the new Obama plan they will likely have insurance and be able to get the doctor to fix it for free.
