I don't want to replace my mirrors, just add mirror extensions for when I'm towing. Having some difficulty finding ones that fit a 2021 Tacoma... anyone have a set they like? My trailer is 7ft wide.

Trailer cam which overlaps the stock side views. I was never impressed with the clip on mirrors.

I'm happy with these mirrors and a backup camera on the trailer. The Dometic DM-2912 is the same mirror. On the Tacoma they mount under the mirror instead of on top.

It works well at night and at noon. The higher you mount it on the trailer, the better it does with light glare. My issue is that I had to bumper mount mine (due to it being a popup), so it has issues in the evening when the sun is direct line of sight with the camera. Had I roof mounted it and angled down, it wouldnt have that problem

While great, I don't thing that solution satisfies DOT's rules and regulations regarding mirrors on tow vehicles and the width of a trailer exceeding the pysical mirror width, with or without extensions. Granted that would require them or the state police to enforce road regulations in the first place.

Cameras are now allowed in place of mirrors now, but that is per a side, not a singular rear mounted camera that doesn't cover the sides of the vehicle and trailer.

i know this is an old thread but can you explain what you mean by the DOT rule? are you saying the width of the towing mirrors needs to be physically wider then the trailer?

Yes, by DOT regulation, you need to be able to see the sides of the trailer from the drivers seat, otherwise you can't see if someone is coming up behind you, or see if a tire is flat/burst, or in the case of an open deck trailer, straps coming loose, load shifting. Failure in load securement is massive fines alongside moving violations.

So yes, the mirrors, when towing, are supposed to be wider than the trailer for road and load safety, and insurance liability reasons. Technically being even an inch wider works, but it is preferred that the mirrors are mostly wider than.

Thank you. Do you know if its wider then the trailer body itself or wider then the trailer including the size of the tires?

Outboard tires and fenders in general do not count unless they are blocking your view of the road behind you.

In general the rules are based around the trailer body, or the cargo, whichever is wider.
