I believe 'Carwell' is our version of 'Crown', and yes, it does leak on hot days. Kind of a burnt butter color.

Yup your right about just repairing the spot an moving on, thats good judgement coming from an aviation tech (Canadian AF Term). Krown on my last vehicle, sprayed yearly since new displayed the reults, you know that SOLD sticker with the bar code youll see on the frame sometimes? Well after 9 winters on my 01 Dakota, you could still read it, minimal rust anywhere on the truck. Ill use it for life. Prevention is 99% of the battle

In response to an earlier post in this thread, why would a rubberized undercoating be bad? I bought a can of it today (duplicolor).

If moisture should get on the inside it will never dry out, and continue to rot the metal from the inside out.

I live in wyoming where it snows a ton, but they dont use salt. I cant understand why an '06 pickup has so much damn rust already. Every weld is rusty and the frame is as well. mostly just surface rust but you would think after what went down with the frame replacement thing on the last pickups they would have done a better job. Ive owned '79 fords, 83 subbies, 90's fords and this is my first Yota. I LOVE this truck but cant imagine it rusting away, and it is. After I changed the oil for the first time and did the diffs and t case I amazed how rusty things were under there. NONE of the other vehicles Ive owned have had this amount of rust, all from the same area. Its pathetic that they make shit so cheaply and charge for the "quality." Just ranting because I'm pissed I have to do something to prevent rust on my new pickup on my day off.....

I think that I will try the rust reformer as I dont want to spend the cash for the por15. Also, that application process seems like a real B*%^$!! Basically its just surface rust, for now, but would hate to let it progress. Pisses me off that none of my other old ass vehicles have had this much rust, but the one I spent the most on does:frusty: Never even thought about doing something like this before on my vehicles, nor heard of it....lived in Idaho/wyoming my whole life and only Utah salts roads, another good reason to stay away from that state:D

For the second year power washed and sprayed frame and power train with boiled linseed oil over labor day weekend. Looked like new from last year.

I wire brushed, rustoleum primered, then herculined my entire frame. It was a total bitch but I guarantee I won't have any issues anymore. It's tough as nails.

Did the POR 15 thing on first frame, what a waste of time, energy, and $. Only thing POR did was help metal fleck off in LARGER chunks! Got replacement frame and FLUID FILM seems to be the way to go as it's quite simple and seems to do the job as prep is easy and product seems to last (minimal evaporation). Plan on a 2 can application late SEPT. for winter protection. Haven't read a complaint on FF yet?. Been 5 years now and no stains on garage floor (first indication of pending problem) and no rust in sight.

I live in Ontario and just picked up my 2013 trd. I am also a technician and have decided after tons of research to go with corrosion free 3000 formula I will be getting it applied professionally and I have lurched extra cans for touch ups that I will pally when needed. I have had several body experts recommend this stuff as well as my old college teacher who is a car guru and has a tacoma as well. He told me that corrosion free 3000 is one of the best products on the market and I like the fact that it is a no drip. I have tested it on some high wash areas on my frame this week and rechecked it and it stays on like a gel.

I'm going to try this next year.

There is some sort of conspiracy going on in upstate NY with the amount of salt they put on the roads.

I just picked up my 2005 Tacoma from North Carolina with a brand new frame, so I am trying to keep it in perfect condition. I was also warned by a guy who works for NYS thruway authority that this year the salt will be even more caustic.
I'm trying Duplicolor bedliner spray over brand new condition frame in high wear areas, like front cab mounts and frame right behind front wheels. Then I'm going to Rust-kote or one of the others to have oil sprayed on it, then brushing grease on it.
Another thing that works for me is CRC white lithium spray grease, which I will use inside the rocker panels.
I also noticed the new Tacomas have plastic plugs in the frame right behind front wheels that are not present on my new frame, so I'm going to get those plugs and some new mud flaps

People typically go against using bedliner because like the rubberized undercoat, it will end up cracking at some point and allow moisture to get up under it. You want something that says in somewhat of undried form like fluid film or something.
