Best way to burp the coolant after swapping idle control valve?

I pulled the valve a couple times to try cleaning it, and afterwards my RPMs would fluctuate up and down at idle. At first I thought it was the valve trying to reprogram itself, but after reading around I discovered that bubbles in the coolant can cause that. Someone suggested that popping off the radiator cap and running the engine with the heat on while pinching the upper rad hose intermittently would burp the air out, so I tried it. Once the engine started warming up the coolant in the radiator rose all the way up to the cap and started threatening to spill out, so I put the cap back on and turned it off. This seemed to fix the RPM fluctuations, but I'm going to be replacing the valve with a new one this weekend and I want to make sure I get all the air out before I go driving it around. Any tips?

no need for all that, it sorts itself out when you drive it. it just needs to warm up to open the thermostat to start circulating coolant.
