"Fantastic", hot water and a nail brush..........rinse thoroughly and hang to dry..... If real stubborn grease....."new hat"

I put mine in a Tupperware with hot water and a little dish soap and just shake it for a while then I take a brush to the parts that are still dirty.

x2 on the dishwasher. You could always try a Coke soak before you throw it in.

$.99 can of starting fluid from Walmart.

Spray it clean and it dries in less than a minute with no discoloration. No residue is left after it all evaporates.

This works great on oil stains on the concrete as well.

This has saved many of my nicer clothes that I was too stubborn to change before taking on a wrenching project.

    You can thank me later.

I wear hats at work to keep the grease and gummy coolant residue off my head. Nothing like a tennis ball sized glob of grease in your hair.

In my experience you are screwed no matter what. I wear a black hat because of it. Actually 2 that I rotate between work and the wash. They will shrink, stain and discolour so I give up. Wash pail with concentrated soap left for 2-3 days and then washed with my work clothes. Air dry and find a nice mold to keep the shape.

The dirty pictures of the OP look new to me. If you want the brand new look then either don’t bring to work / dirty situations or buy spares. You could try a dry cleaner but I have no idea the success there either. With my work environment I won’t even wear a “good” hat to work or home. Then again I own a full roll of those seat condoms they put on your truck at the dealership for service. That way no matter what my truck stays clean and not full of grease ground into the fabric.

It's a 5 year old hat that's seen it's fair share of sweat and oily hair, I'm just trying to clean it up a little.

Nothing was working and it was starting to look like a loss. So as a last ditch effort, I used this:

After two sprays and then a nail brush and hot water rinse:

Lestoil. I would use it on hats, hoodies, Carhatt jackets when I worked for Cummins. Will remove grease, oil, pretty much anything. Smells like pine though. Works wonders for hard stains and grease though.

It looks like a new hat made to look old and fitted but not in a good way.
