    Hello Everybody,

What is the best way to depressurize the fuel system on a 1999 Toyota Tacoma with the 3.4 V6?

Thank you in advance for all of your replies.

    Take care,
    Paul Muzinich

Open the gas cap and open a fuel line, say at the fuel filter or fuel rail.

Remove the fuel pump relay (lower dash). Then start the truck until it dies.

There will still be a tiny bit of pressure in the system so go slow when undoing the first flare nut.

The method outlined by @Madjik_Man is technically the correct way to depressurize the system. If, however, what you are doing is replacing the fuel filter, I've found that you don't need to go to the trouble of depressurizing the system before removing the filter. Rather, if you go slowly when undoing the first flare nut, cracking it just enough for fuel to drip from the filter into a catch basin, you can just let the system depressurize itself prior to completely removing the filter.

Here's a step-by-step tutorial I put together on that process, with pics, parts, and tools needed to do the job.

    How-to: Replace the Fuel Filter in a 96-04 Tacoma or 96-02 4Runner
