    Hello,

I'm looking at purchasing a 2014 4x4 manual, Double cab, V6 w/ Sport package. I've seen various threads about top speed. I'm not really too worried about top speed since its a truck. However, I am interested in its get-up-and-go. I like the ability to accelerate in different situations especially involving highway travel.

Was wondering, what are some great ways to increase the acceleration speed for 0 - 80 mph? I've seen some specs on the Supercharger (for $4500) that will increase the 0 - 60 mph from 8.2 seconds to 6.8 seconds (thanx to wiki).

    What do ya'll think? Thanx...

Supercharger is pretty much the only way to see real numbers, you can always do a exhaust and a cai but they don't do much compared to the supercharger.

    +1

You can gear down to help with acceleration, but it's going to hurt your highway legs.
SC is the only way to improve the V6... but seriously, it's a midsized truck.
If you want a racecar, buy something else. There's nothing wrong with the performance stock.

To answer the question directly, the best way possible is to supercharge it, then put the TRD cold air intake and redo every inch of the exhaust starting with new headers. Not the cheapest, and you'll likely get very incremental gains on everything but the supercharger- But it's the "Best " like you asked that'll last without sacrificing anything but mpg. Also, you can get that SC down around 3800 if you dig hard enough.

but really why go all tokyo drift on a new 4x4?? we're not made for that.

A supercharger is your best HP per dollar mod. Plus any mods you do/hhaveone like intake or exhaust will have greater gains with an S/C than without.

Supercharger and lower it for less wind resistance

Trying to wrap my head around this one, what situations are you specifically talking about, the only time I wish I had a SC would be pulling a trailer uphill, other than that, freeway is freeway, no need for 1000hp (well, I might be exaggerating a bit)...

Build thread in sig... 4-link long travel
with the toll roads around here (since i don't have an electronic toll pass yet), every time i have to stop and pay a toll (there are a lot of them), i have to do 0-80 as fast as i can to merge back in and not get run over by douche bags doing 90 in lifted f-250s.

so in addition to towing, hauling, and the general smile you get when you accelerate with more power, there is a safety example for why more power would be nice at times....

But seriously, yeah our Tacomas are not the fastest take off vehicles and Merging with highway traffic sometimes is a pain. but I thinks thats due to 3.73 gears. If you have V6 swapping 3.73 gears to something like 4.10 or 4.30 out of Land Cruiser would change that. But trade off will be fuel mileage and top speed.

I went to 4.88's and it didn't really affect my freeway mileage. I still pull about 17-18 mpg at 75mph. I am running 33's and weigh almost 6000lbs including driver.

Gears are nice from a stop but once you are moving they don't seem to change things much. It's about the equivalent of just downshifting really.

Come drive the highways up in MA. During rush hour, you can drive in the breakdown lane so you have to hit the end of the onramp and pin it to get up to speed with traffic or risk getting your ass getting run over. Driving up here is like a sport

I just sold my 99' 4runner 3.4 for an 11' taco 4.0, and the difference in acceleration is dramatic. It feels so much more effortless getting to speed. Love it.
A full N/A tune will net you about the power of a stock S/C. long tube headers, exhaust, ypipe and intake will net you 30-40hp. tune and cam gears another 10-15hp (at the wheels.) S/c will give you 90hp at the wheels then you can all those parts on afterwards for even more power... lots of 1gr's with all bolt ons are in the 350rwhp range (stock is 190rwhp).

Sounds like he should look into a better truck for his needs.

We have a 2002 dodge 2500 4x4 diesel at work. That thing hauls ass
