looking for some advice on keeping all the shit from flinging all over the sides of my truck because my tires stick out about 1.5" with Bfg ko2's. Anybody using mud flaps or fender flares and which is better? Pics would be nice

Will they work as well as mud flaps? I'm thinking flaps would rub on me anyway

Flaps and flares serve two different purposes. You'd likely benefit from flares more than flaps, unless you removed the factory flaps and aren't running anything. Last I checked there was a rockblox group buy for those but it could be over.

I removed my flaps when I put bullies on and my SCS wheels and Bfg's on. I think they were rubbing

Flaps protect your rocker panels from rocks and debris as well as vehicles behind you. Wide, flexible options are your best bet with big ol tires. Flares will help protect the sides of your truck. Both would be ideal.

Go check out rockblox for flaps! I don't have flares on my truck. Not sure who makes the best ones for tacos. Bushwhacker comes to mind.

It depends on which model you buy. Some of them are the same width as stock but if you get the pocket flares they stick out farther

I have looked into this. The bushwackers don't appear to add much coverage. Maybe an additional half inch over the stock fender flares. Hardly worth $500 (for me at least) just to get a tiny bit more coverage.

this...they barely add anything at all pocket or not and they are a hair smaller than the OE flares in height too so if you have had your OE flares on for a few years and they have worn a nice groove into your paint the the bushwankers will not cover it up

I think there is different styles of the BW to choose from. Someone posted a pic recently on the site that had that difference but I have no idea on what thread. I do know I had some extra wide ones on my Dodge that I sold to get my Tacoma so it might be worth looking into. But, I could be wrong with options available now?

I think they provide much more coverage for other trucks. Our stock fender flares already provide an inch of coverage. The bushwackers measure from the rear panel, not the existing stock flare so in reality you only gain another half inch of coverage. There are a couple threads on here with pics.

Also, if you want them to match the truck, it's another $3-500 at a body shop. I'm not crazy about the look, painted or not, so it's definitely not worth the money for me.

Other solutions are plastidip or a clear bra or the clear spray film made by 3m.

    There are also these....

I have been looking into these pretty closely but can't seem to find a review or pics of them on a taco,so no go just yet. People say sliders help, I've also considered that.

Don't remove your flares, my truck looks like it went through a mud pit after going down my gravel driveway

If you don't want scratches from rocks/debris, then you shouldn't have bought an all terrain tire. They trap everything which in turns slings it on the truck which I'm sure you understand. It's a truck, so blemishes will make it unique. But to answer your question, there isn't really much to do to prevent damage from occurring. Unless you want to switch back to a less aggressive road tire, I say deal with some minor blemishes that occur with use.
