Hey everyone i recently bought a 2021 tacoma sr5 and wanted to know what tire set ups you guys are using for a 17x8.5 0mm offset rims ? I am aiming for a 2/1 lift set up to go along with the wheels. I have been reading on the forms that i can do up to 285/70? I wanted to know if it was true or any other alternative's . Im going to be using the truck as daily driver and i am not really looking todo a BMC, and would like to not rub crazy amounts if possible. If you guys could post pictures of your set ups with specific information it would be much appreciated ! IMG_8564.jpg

I just got 285/70/R17s and they're great. Slight rubbing on the front two wheels behind the tires. Nowhere else. Going to trim the wheel well tomorrow.

Can you please post pictures of your set with a description of everything you have done! and when you say trimming the wheel well ? Is it just the plastic parts ? And what rim size width are you running ?

I’m not on a 2/1 setup, but closer to it as I’m running Deaver’s stage 1s right now and that’s putting me up in the rear, but I’m hoping to run a shell soon.

    6112 up front, about 2.2
    Deaver’s stage 1 rears, about 1.5 net; 5160s
    SEMA wheels, 17x7, 4 offset
    285/70/17 Maxxis Razr AT

I didn’t want a wider wheel as I plan to continue to run the Razrs or skinnies.the Razr is a hair smaller than the normal 285/70/17, which helps minimize rubbing and weight.

quietest AT I think I’ve ever run

it’s my daily, the wheel and tire setup is about 70 lbs per corner as the tire is only 46lbs I believe, a featherweight. It’s. C class tire, but I’ve heard from others they’ve had 0 issues both on and off road.

Without the oem mud flaps, if I’m at full lock and flexed a decent amount, I’ve rubbed a bit, but barely considering, aside from that, naw.

2" front 1" rear, dirt king uca's, high castor alignment, fender liner trim and tuck up front, rok blokz mud flaps, 17x9 +1 285/70r17

That was an old set up. If you daily the truck i would strongly look at 265/70r17's no lift or 255/80r17's no lift on a 0 offset wheel.

You get a huge increase in a cool offroady look without all the pains thst come with lifting and big tires. Like potential for vibrations increased component wear and tear and loss of fuel economy.

17x9 +1 267/70r17 all stock suspension it truly is the best balance for a daily.

Also tacopaco98, my wheels are 17x9 with 6mm. I have bilstein 5100s which add a little more than an inch in the back and just less than 2 inches in the front.

    Thank you for the advice!

I really don't need a wider tire to get some pokey...just a tad of negative offset.

    EDIT: Looking to do: 265/70R17s

Wheel Specs of my 2021 TRD Sport:

    Wheel Diameter 17.0 x 7.5 in
    Rear Wheel Diameter 17.0 x 7.5 in
    Wheels aluminum with painted accents

Yep changing that offset goes a long way to improving the esthetic of the truck. You can just add a 1.25" spacing to a stock wheel but personally I'm not a fan of adding extra failure points in my wheels. Stock sport offset is +33 if i recall right and converting a 1.25 spacer is 31.75mm so it damn near puts you at a +1 offset.
I would stick to a 0 if you want the best odds of no rubbing with a one sized up tire. Definitely recommend wider mud flaps if you like your paint. I used rokblokz XL's even with my 285's but had to remove the fronts after a cmc for 295's and -38 offset and i miss them don't want to know what my rear flares look like since removing them.

That shows the fitment a bit better

    No Spacers for me! lol

I'm looking at Bilstein 5100s Leveling Kit and utilize the 2" setting.

This would allow a bigger tire that's not too crazy...and crazy for me is 285s. lol upload_2025-1-13_14-4-45.png

The thing to be mindful of is lift does not equal clearence on these trucks. It will help at ride height but the second you turn and that suspension compresses everything is still there to hit. Higher offset only amplifies this by the scrub radius increase.

If you intend on lifting skip the level and maintain rake especially if you ever do any amount of truck stuff with stock leafs or even an add a leaf. And plan on an clam shell bushing sooner than later mine didn't immediately start vibrating but it really didn't take long. Could of saved some scoring on the cv shaft.

Write up i did for another discussion regarding my experience with rake vs leveled under load

I got a sticker and some cool valve stem caps...
This is a perfect setup... clean, understated and well thought out. And, no black wheels. I applaud u sir and ur logic on the tires. I'm actually interested in the Razr AT for the same reasons.

OP... if u don't want to mess with rubbing of any sort and keep full Mechanical reliability, do 1" lift and 265/70r17

I would go more positive than 0 offset. With 275s you could get away with more of a +4 or maybe even +15 offset with some 4Runner wheels. In my experience, you want to have as much positive offset as you can manage without rubbing the UCAs. This will reduce scrub radius and provide more tire clearance on the cab mounts and front fender liners. Less trimming, maybe not even CMC necessary with a good aligment.

I went with 0 offset wheels and 34x10.5-R17 tires (they are not 34s, more like a 33) and I rub the cab mount a little even with a high caster alignment. I am changing out to either +15 offset or +20.

I you want that "wheel poke" look, 0 is a good choice but just know the more negative you go on the offset, the more likely you are going to rub the cab mounts.

Can you send me what it looks like after the you trim it ? Because at this point i think im just going to say fuck it and go for the 285/70 on a set of ssw dakars on 17x9’s with 0mm offset
