Best windshield tint?

Windshield tint seems like a good idea. Maybe for a bit of privacy, sun protection inside, and cooling the interior.
But not so dark that it causes traffic tickets and makes seeing at night difficult.

Is this a good idea? What does everyone run?
Just had a new windshield installed and I think it's clear; not the tinted version some companies offer.
Am thinking of applying a very slight tint film and having a shop do it; I'll ask what films they offer and price quotes.

Not sure if it's worth re-tinting the other windows. The taco came with it already but it's very dark (kinda hard to see at night) and a cheap low quality film that doesn't look the best or even keep much heat out.
    But keeping it reduces cost.

But yeah; what are your thoughts on windshield tint?

I’ve used 3M color stable tint on all my vehicles for some time. When I lived in Florida it was completely necessary. I’ve never done a windshield, but finally considering it on my base taco. Don’t go too dark on the windshield, prob will put you in more danger than bring you benefits IMO.

I have xpel XR its 88% so its not very dark but it reduces the heat and uv coming in quite a bit. I have the same tint installed on all the cars I've owned and always have had a good experience with it.

I had 70% suntek ceramic tint but it honestly does not make a difference sincs i live in FL. I switched to 32% global ceramic and its a world of a difference. Driving at night is not difficult but i have okay vision. It looks very dark during sunset but during full sunlight you can still see somewhat through it. I also have 5% all around.

It drastically reduces the heat inside the truck. I've always used 50% on the windshield. Llumar Window Film is what I've used in the past. I haven't done this truck of mine yet but I have done several of mine in the past and I will be doing it at some point in the future.

I think it looks badass, all my previous vehicles had the windshield tinted. If too dark some cops won’t like it and get you for it, i usually do 20, lol. The few times i’ve gotten a ticket for it i remove it, pay the “fix it” ticket and get it redone. Love the look. I think a lot of us can agree that a premium film is worth it. However, a clean, well lit workspace; installed by an experienced professional is a nonnegotiable. Just sayin.

Mods are currently being changed .....
The only people tinting their windshields around here are usually the ones you don't want living in, or driving through, your neighborhood. I've also never seen owners who are knee deep in mods (for the purposes that involve actually DRIVING and utilizing their vehicles) tinting their windshield. Thats not a dig at anyone who likes the appearance, just the truth.

In general tho, theres no need for it and I've lived in AZ and TX. Blast the AC. So my opinion would be the best windshield tint is no windshield tint.

In my state any tint below the AS-1 line no matter how light is illegal.

50% on my entire windshield is my happy medium between too much sunlight coming through and being too dark for everyday driving. During overcast days, people can barely see in the truck. At night, I honestly don’t even realize the windshield is tinted most of the time because it seems normal.

Same here. A couple of other points, it sucks at night, especially off-road or anywhere you've got less ambient light and as you get older your night vision naturally gets worse. My truck had it when I first got it and I think the first mod I did was to remove it; the rest of the glass is still tinted though.

Personally I never understood why people tinted their windshields, always seemed dangerous to me. Shoot, I don't even like side or rear windows to be too dark. With that said, I went with ceramic tint for the windshield. It's barely a tint though, almost no "darkening", it's basically a clear film, just a whole lotta UV/Sun protection due to the ceramic. So far I'm VERY happy with the results. No change in visibility (you wouldn't know it was tinted unless someone told you) but a drastic change in how hot the cab gets when sitting in the sun.

IMO it's not even worth tinting any windows unless you use ceramic, the stuff is awesome and well worth the premium.

What this guy said x10. We have Ziebart, who offers a lifetime warranty on bubbles/peeling. It may cost twice as much for ceramic, but it's worth it if you're keeping your vehicle until it blows up.

Luckily my local guy doesn't charge that much more for ceramic. I think it was $100 more to do ceramic for our CR-V (all windows except windshield). But the windshield is expensive - $200 for just the windshield. We opted not to do it on the CR-V due to price but I did it on the Tacoma. I'm sold now and will be bringing the CR-V back in for the windshield at a some point.
