Best Windshield Wiper & Any Installation Problems ?

If you get them on sale they cost about the same. I usually have to replace them every year on my daily driver. We have had a lot of wet weather this year.

Yep, +1.

OEM wiper blades are thicker and more substantial than the various "refill" blades. Less expensive, and worth it.

 

I had bosch icons and hated them. Streaked like crazy.

Went with piaa super silicones and they're amazing!

 

Rain-x Latitudes. No pressure points and they say they won't freeze to the windshield. I haven't had them freeze at all, so they seem to be right.

 

I wax my windshield when I wash my truck and I use the stock wipers. I've tried a few aftermarket blades and just wasn't happy with them. However my GF had an 07 Nissian Altima and I loved those blades. They were just giant pieces of foam/rubber and molded to the shape of which ever windshield they were on.

 

I have still got my OEM from when i got the truck new on mine in Jan 09 and still wipe great . Ill get what ever i can thats factory again .

I am going to try something different and welcome your comments on this too.

(1) Got a "Mothers Clay Bar" at Walmart and will clean outside first with the clay bar (first time using a clay bar too).

(2) Next wax (which wax is better) or rain-x it.

(3) Try "Goodyear Assurance" wipers (got them free at local COSTCO with a coupon) and see what happens.

Normally, I buy only the best (ie. Royal Purple, Mobile 1, K&N) for my Taco, but free was nice to try too.

Will let you guys know how it works out.

Clay bar is a good idea. Helps to pull off all the crap so your new wipers don't get warn out too fast.
Personally I use Aquapel glass treatment, and PIAA Super Silicone Sporza blades. They have the little wing on them to push them down at higher speeds. The blades leave a layer of silicone on the glass that repels water. They last a long time too as long as you don't run them over a frozen windshield... at about $20-25 a piece they aren't cheap, but worth every penny in my mind. Just make sure you get the Silicone ones if you go this route, the rubber ones are not very good and chatter. You can find them on Amazon.

 

I like Meguires products. The clay bar requires elbow grease, atleast on the body, I'm sure the windshield will be easier.

 

Did you use clay bar lubricant? It shouldn't be hard at all..

 

I'm surprised at all the different opinions on wipers. Personally, for the past 15 years, I've always used Anco. I buy them at Walmart (cheapest place I've found them). They usually last me three years on average. I don't do any windshield treatments either.

 

Could be that the only times I used it I was A) Clay baring a car with a 13yr old abused paint job and B) getting overspray off of my 02 Tacoma. No I didn't use any lubricant, didn't even know it exhisted. I'll be sure to check for the next time. Thanks for the heads up.

 

lubricant comes with the kit from Meguiars. It's no effort when done according to directions.

 

None came with the kits I used. This first time was not Meguiars for sure back in the 90's and the 02 tacoma was done in 03 not sure if that was Meguiars.

 

Wow I can imagine the time you had with that.. yeah you can use either a "clay bar lubricant" or just a quick detail spray.

 

Both times the result was excellent, but took forever and man that was some work. I used a detail spray on the truck to help. I thought people were crazy when they talked about how they easily reccomended clay baring a vehicle. After doing my chevelle that was my last resort.

 

Once a year, I use a glass polish to deep-clean the windshield. They I put on some Rain-X and use factory blades. Works perfectly for me through the years.
