I replaced mine at about 40k. It all depends on what clutch you got. Toyota installed 2 different clutches, 1 had no problems, 1 had many problems. Some people will say their clutch started slipping at 5k, some say it has never slipped.

I'm assuming you are referring to your ring and pinion gears? You have 4.10s stock

What short shifter did you put in? Have you had any problems getting it into reverse? I have heard nothing but bad things about those short shifters going into reverse. I have been wanting to put one on my 08 reg cab 4x4, but just cant pull the trigger with all the negative reviews.

Upon the initial install of the URD short shifter there were some times where it was a little more work to get into reverse. Eventually that extra effort was no longer needed. It was never as bad as my Impreza is stock.

Yeah I haven't had this problem. There are times where it won't go in reverse but its not any more common then it not wanting to shift into first sometimes. Thing ive always done is just let the clutch out and push it back in and it goes right into gear. Seems to be the same way in my 94 as well.

Yep I use that a lot also. But my ebrake is usually worthless after the first watercrossing so I end up just using the clutch to hold me. You can use the normal break that same way. Hold the brake hard. Find your release point on the clutch and transfer to the gas pedal. Kase the only problem with what you just said is a lot of times when you are in a situation to have to use these techniques, flooring is problem gonna get you in trouble. Haha

i just updated the install with detail of pressure plate, pilot bearing and TOB unistall and install. I took all these pics a few months ago when i switched to the LCE dual comp clutch. Much better clutch for me then the Centerforce

Si senior. I'll tell you what I think about it later tonight when I get a min to sit down but I like it much better for my truck now then the dual friction Centerforce. The Centerforce just couldn't hold the torque. The LCE seems to bathe in it and love it. Haha

Damn you got some good usage out of it. Mine was slipping bad off-road when I had stock gears and 32 KMs. Haha

The centerforce dual friction is a great clutch. It is much better then the stock clutch and worked great for stock gears and 33s. But 4.88s and 35s destroyed it pretty quick. Still was perfectly fine on road but was toast off-road.

The LCEngineering dual comp clutch is awesome off-road with 4.88s and 35s. The clutch pedal stiffness isn't quite what I thought it would be. I'm actually a lil disappointed because I was hoping it to be stiffer but it not being so stiff makes it easier to drive so I'm not complaining too much. The clutch really does not want to slip. It's actually hard to slip it. Start to let out on the clutch and you hit that spot where the engine idol dips just slightly but you aren't moving yet. Release just slightly more and a stock clutch or the Centerforce would start to ease into driving but without enough gas you could stall it pretty easy. The LCE doesn't have that slow release. It just catches and pulls the truck and starts driving. Almost like in an auto when you have it in neutral and then put it in drive and it jerks the truck to start rolling. The clutch wants to catch like that. You literally have to dump it with no gas on the street to stall it. I've done it just to see if I could stall it or not. Haha and when trying to slip it by letting off very slowly, it just chatters like "fuck you, let me go!"

Off-road though is a lil different. Because the clutch wants to grab, it's hard to do something, like crawl up a big rock, at a really slow speed. Even with 4.88s and in 1st in 4lo it's almost too fast for the clutch. I stalled it a hand full of times when I first put it in because I was used to slipping the other clutch. I had to learn to drive the clutch off-road. Basically it's keeping right at that release point and moving your foot allowing the clutch to grab momentarily then releasing it but not letting off all the way, just moving back to that release point. It's like using 1/4" of the pedal constantly and using the engine rpms to keep your power up in a tough spot. The difference of the clutch is night and day. I finally burned the clutch up a lil bit at on spot where I was just fucking around but even then I didn't "notice" it slip but could def smell it. Check this out. At the end of this video I revved it to like 3k to get up this rock ........

This video shows about how fast I can go over rocks. Small rocks are actually harder because the clutch is almost all or nothing and makes my truck rock back and forth more then I would like ......

Overall this clutch is badass. Hard as fuck to stall on the street and doesn't slip off-road. The pedal stiffness is not too stiff (unlike what the dude at LCE told me) and is very drivable. I can't wait to get a crawl box and combine the non slipping and holding power of the clutch with the slow speed and torque of the crawl box.

Going to be changing my clutch out soon. I know we have a different transmission, but I feel like it would be really similar... what do you think?

Clutch installs are generally very similar. The process and steps are the same. You may have different plugs to undo, a different numbers of bolts to loosen, slightly different torque specs, etc ........ But yes the process will be very similar. What clutch are you installing?
