Does anyone notice better gas milage at higher RPM or getting out of 1st and second gear faster?

I looked at my average trip millage and I was at 14L per 100 KM. (16.8MPG) when I got out of 1st and 2nd gear.

I usually drive like a grandma and average 16-18LPG (13-15 MPG)

If I paw paw my truck, I can get 20mpgs with heavier tires and air dam removed.... If I try really hard, and don't drive too fast, I can get 22mpgs.

I notice if I drive like I got somewhere to be, I get about the same ECT or not at around 18mpgs mixed and sitting in a little traffic.

That's the Atkinson cycle kicking in. With a higher rpm it can run in low power mode.

    DCSB 4X4 is rated 18 city / 23 hwy but I get 22 city / 18 hwy above 65 mph.

If I stay between 35 mph to 55 mph. I get 25 mpg or better.

When going downhill, touch gas a little and get 10 mph over speed limit, then you hit a uphill going 10 mph over, slightly touch gas, let it slow down a little going up a hill, by the time you complete the uphill, you might be 5 mph under the speed limit. I'm trying to let it coast as much as possible. Don't work the engine and you can get pretty good gas mpg.

If you maintain speed up a hill, your mpg goes down.

I also noticed if you are stuck in bad traffic, barely scooting along for an hour. I still got 16-18 mpg wow. It use very little gas to idle.

There was a thread someone mentioned they got better MPG keeping it in 4th on the highway.

    I've been getting average 14 to 15L/100
When I'm at a site just north of me where its all street driving 60km limit.
But when I was at a site farther away where it was mostly highway I got 11L/100km.

I'm curious to test this. I've been babying it while in break in period. Since I'm out of it maybe I'll try driving with ect on and being more peppy. See how it is.

However with the snow storm last weekend I got 21.8L/100km while in 4hi lol. Which completely fuckin sucked

I found going about 110-115km on the highway I got 11L/100km. So 21mpg

You will notice a significant increase in MPG if you don't use the cruise control on the highway. I commute 40 miles a day on the interstate and I can get 21.5 maintaining 75mph with my foot vs 19 using the CC.

Getting to 6th gear as fast as possible and keeping it there is the best way to improve economy.

Btw I have 16 inch alloy wheels with 245/75r16 Hankook HT

Bigger heavier wheels and bigger heavier tires will reduce mpg as well as power response.
