I can tell you rightnow you chose the wrong tires if you car about fuel mileage. You can 33in tires that weigh around 50 pounds or so and the find wheels that are light weight such as SCS Wheels

Getting good gas mileage and 33” tires don’t go together. I got about 17 mpg max when I had 33’s. I went back to 31’s (stock size) and get up to 21.5 mpg now.

I agree if worried about fuel mileage 33s would be the last tire size I’d buy.

21.5 highway I’m guessing? I get around 18 mpg with 265/75/16s mixed driving.

    I have a V6 with 340k miles, 33 inch BFG KM2 but I’m defeated to 4:56 and I get 20 mpg combined driving

First mod is to use the search feature. There are many threads on this topic already

Tacomas are NOT known for their gas mileage.

Makes sure all your regular maintenance items are done (MAF sensor, throttle body, filters, etc...), don't get big tires that are E load range.

But mostly just drive slower and drive like you have an egg between your foot and the pedal.

Seeing as how the EPA rated the 1st gen 4x4 V6 at 15 city/18 hwy, I have my doubts that people are really getting more than that with anything but stock 265/70 street tires.

So in my book if you are getting 14 with 33's (I assume stock gearing?)you're really not that far off.

@2001nwTacoma - This is right on ^^^^. Folks who are consistently getting higher than 15/18mpg are likely not measuring over a long enough period or are being lied to by their odometer.

Lied to? Yes, that's how it works (sort of on purpose and sort of due to how we mod our trucks): Speedometers, Odometers, and Gas Mileage - All Lies! outlines how our speedo's are configured at the factory to show ~8-9% better gas mileage than you're actually getting. And, it covers how to fix it (if you care).

IMHO the very best mod you can do to your truck is get a daily driver.

My daily averages 47mpg, truck is 15mpg. Between the two was 35mpg last year but I’ve been using the truck more so it’s probably on the high 20’s.

I got 21 mpgs on 33’s stock gearing but that was going 55mph on a flat highway for 200 miles

OK, but this isn't "getting 21mpg," really. This is temporarily experiencing an anomoly. Over time, you'll average out to 15-18 if you're stock.

I've gotten 23-25 when I've driven 35mph through Yellowstone with a tailwind, but I don't suggest that my average mpg is 23-25. It's like 16mpg.
