gas here is 3.15 for 87 octance, it was 2.75 last week but it jumped back up, and 100 octane would probly be useless in our trucks unless we have forced induction or nitrous...speaking of nitrous....how dangerous is the VVT-I with spraying? i wouldnt want to try and find out by myself haha

87 is $2.71 here. but before you all start cursing me remember that it probably take atleast three of you to equal my property taxes. :(

    Go to the paint store.

    Buy this:

    1. Acetone
    2. Toluene
    3. Methyl Ethyl Keytone
    4. Marvel Mystery Oil (get at autoparts store)

Take 16.9 oz. water bottle and mix:
    1. Fill with Mystery Oil to about 1" from the bottom.
    2. Fill remaining volume with 1/3 MEK, 1/3 Acetone, and 1/3 Toluene.
    3. Shake contents well.
    4. Apply to fuel tank before filling with gas (fillup mixes everything well).

I use one application for every 10 tankfulls or once before a long trip.

This stuff works good! I make my own because buying Berryman's B-12 Chemtool is too damn expensive. Granted, buying a gallon of all this stuff is expensive initially, but it save a crapload in the long run.

Tip #1: don't smoke while you're mixing this stuff.
Tip #2: don't get it on your paintjob when you fill the tank.
Tip #3: don't call me if you blow up you're house.:D

Using this removes the crap that builds up on your intake valves and cleanses your pistons by removing all that garbage you see on the commercials. I'd guess that using it every other tankfull for the first 5,000 miles will help the valves and rings seat better during break-in because it would keep them clean the entire time. I've even used it in my oil right before a change to de-varnish the moving parts. Just don't drive with it in the oilpan. I usually just let it idle for 20 minutes after poring it into the dipstick opening. Then change the oil and the filter.

BTW, kinda off-topic (but on my mind)

After draining your oil (with the drain plug and oil filter still removed), force some compressed air into the oil filler cap opening under the hood. Most of the time you'll get another 1/4 of a quart of dirty oil out of your engine!

When you replace the oil filter, first fill it with new oil before puting it back on (doesn't have to be full to the brim) just 7/8's or so. This keeps the engine from running dry for those first few seconds on initial start-up.

    Every little bit helps.;)

I never said anything about gas mileage...it's for cleaning varnish and gunk out of your engine. If it DID increase gas mileage it wouldn't be worth the expense anyways. It's not cost effective.

    Think about it.

Just be really careful when you're mixing the stuff, especially around plastic containers. One spark and you're going to be doing an amateur Richard Pryor impression.:boom:

The easy way is to just go buy some Berrymans B-12 Chemtool and put it in the tank before you fill the tank.

Read the bottle for the contents and you'll see how I came up with the formula.

I read the first 3 pages but want to make sure I don't lose the thread. Being new to the forum I don't know how to subscribe to a thread until you reply. Any help with this?

Have the results been posted in this thread already? I'm planning on reading through the entire thing as time allows but could use a teaser...

    Thanks

To subscribe to a thread without posting to it...

At the top of the page are a series of drop-down menus with little down arrows next to them.

one of them says thread tools\/ Click on that, and I think the last option in the drop down menu is subscribe to thread.

As to the results. 007tacoma and I are still finishing the testing. But there are some results throughout the rest of the thread, but after we conclude the testing there will be a new thread with all the results in a clear and concise format, and that thread will be linked in this one.

look for the completed results in the next few weeks.

Perhaps I mis typed, and implied that the results would be finalized in this thread.

There will be a new thread, that will likely be a sticky, and the link to that new thread will be provided in this thread.

    Just a quick note:

I just finished the DIY cruise control. Easy job. Worth the money and the 1 hour (manual trans).

Here's what Ive noticed. Having a steady cruise control maintained speed is already raising my mileage (as observed by scangaugeII tlemetry).

You guys are gonna crap :p. @ 65 mph I'm reading 36-38 mpg (indicated). We'll see exactly what it is when I refill the tank after 400 miles.

Here's the kicker. Holding 65 mph cruise setting, I slid right in behind a semi-truck about 25 feet behind his bumper, drafted him, and noted the gas mileage and gallons per hour indication ..................heheh.......showed 45+ mpg and 1.95 gph and it remained steady.

    Conclusion: Wind drag=Bad ! Drafting=gooooooood !!!!!

Hey Tsunami, did you watch the mythbusters where they drafted a big rig? The mpg went up exponentially the closer they get to the truck. They got something like an 80%mpg increase at around 8 to 10 feet from the back of the truck.... but they didnt recoment getting that close for safety reasons.
