I live in Ohio to. If you are already questioning whether to buy that truck or not then its time to pass on it. I was also looking for a decent older Tacoma and unless they have a new frame I came up with nothing so I bought a new one. I learned quick when to pass when I saw the spare tires in the bed on so many of them. They seemed more prone to rust around the spare tire area.
My brother in law has a 86 Toyota pickup with way over 200000 miles on it. That is 33 Ohio winters and the truck is still running. The frame is starting to go bad on it now but my brother in law thinks its good for another couple years and just put a new clutch in it. He loves that truck excessive rust and all.
I am adamant about keeping the frame clean on my 2017 and wash underneath of it every week during the winter months. So far its still clean after 23000 miles.
Id look down south or out west or hope you find someone local who is selling one from those places. Good luck.

Unless I missed it, what is the model and pricing on the truck? It's only worth the risk if you can get a great deal on it and have enough in savings to slowing replace rusted not frame related parts until getting the frame replaced.

It's 2011 TRD Off Road, it's a decent deal as it is, but I've got cash on hand to buy it outright (which the dealership doesn't know yet, so I can probably get them to come down some more). I guess it just comes down to how much of a risk-taker I want to be.

If you work on your own vehicles, I would search and pay more for one with less rust. You will curse and lose a testicle just doing simple repairs dealing with rust.
