My buddy had his stolen from his tundra. Must say it sounded bad ass!
After that we wrapped an old winch cable around his exhaust and tacked it up everywhere.

Buddy lives in Lodi. Too close to Stockton

Ha, ha - they do to. Some shady mechanic shops steal them too (replace with straight pipe and claim the cat was never there). Mostly in diesels where there are no sensors for that, so no ECL to show it.
90% here are cars or pseudo-suv (station wagon with big wheels) so they are so low, that it is very difficult to get under. This is why cat converter street-theft is not popular here. Not because of short of criminals, but lack of supply

This happened to my 89 4Runner back in '07. Started my truck after work and it sounded... different. Happened in Dallas and not the best area.

My friend had a 2004 Double Cab and used to live in Stockton too, he parked it on the street. He told me his cat was stolen four times.

In the east bay it's the Bart stations. You park and go to work, come back and some jackball has sawzalled your cat and ripped the o2 sensors. Then it's like a $1400.00 repair.

Bonus: your EAF points got a bump up by having a catalytic converter skid plate.
