I just had a new Jeep take off set of K02 in a 285-70-17. Tires took very little weight to balance. They seem to ride good with no vibration but they are doing something funny. Between 50-60 if I let go of steering wheel it will move back and forth about 1/8” - 1/4”. Any suggestions on what my problem could be? It does pull slightly to the right so not certain of alignment. Thanks for any help.

Your first step will be to get an alignment... After that... not sure.

    Alignment. How much lift?

Surprised they needed "very little weight . . ."

KO2's are famous for being a bit difficult to balance. DT got mine right every time, but they usually had to work at it.

Do this first to see if the shimmy stays the same. That will help rule out balancing issues.

Thanks for all advice. I just rotated front to back. Will test drive again tomorrow. Does pull a little to the right so I do plan on getting that checked. Shop that installed wants to recheck balance Wednesday. I have 3” leveling kit up front with 1” tapered blocks on rear. I have about 18,000 miles with 285-70-17 Nitto Terra Grappler G2 and it drove close to perfect.

I had the same issue, steering wheel shake at around that speed and I ended up having a bad out of round tire. Replaced it and has been good ever since.

Could be why the Jeep owner got rid of them.

Rotate them left to right, and then front to rear. You will find the bad tire.

Have you tried keeping your hand(s) on the wheel?

General Grabber AT2 are awesome. Just got a set.

    Some Serious Tires
I have a shitload of old school weights and stick on weights on each wheel. Had to bring it to dealer twice for them to balance properly haha. So far no problems:fingerscrossed:, great all around tire

My previous tires (duratracs) needed a shitload of weights too tho, mechanic even made a comment.

    Good luck!

    Cool stuff
I’m guessing your on lug centric wheels, not hub centric ..... try taking off the wheels and hand tighten them all the way down, then torque them to spec with the star pattern.....

Yes I keep my hands on the wheel. Only did this checking how they drove. I do have hub centric wheels and I rotated them after this started. I draw them up even and then torque to 85’ lbs. thanks

it's possible that your wheel bearings or steering rack needs some attention if the alignment and wheel balances are ok.

it's stupid but like @fake4x4 said, try re-seating the lugs. if the shop just blasted the lugs on and didn't seat them, the wheel may be out of center from the hub slightly.

I vote for Grabbers too. :D

Really though, I just wanted to add, make sure your surface is good with no ruts. Wide tires will find the grooves in the road better than a pizza cutter tire.

Having owned a set of 265/40-17 General Grabber ATX for 10 Days: I’d say they are comparable to KO2s, which is a good thing. They ride comfortably, handle well, and look like a million bucks. They did well on a dirt road. The ATXs hum a little at speed, but not objectionably so. Haven’t had a chance to try them in foul weather yet.

I’d put ATX on par with KO2s; and slightly above above Duratracs.
