I was second guessing my KO2's until this past weekend. I wasn't real sure how they were gonna do in the snow well we got 13" of snow and they have went every where I wanted them to go and actually stayed pretty clean. I was worried they would not do as good as the duratrac's I had for 3+ years and I was wrong they held up just fine for me.

how do they compare in the mud? I have been looking at ko2's and duratracs for my next set, but every time there is any mud my ko's instantly ball up

Not to start an argument but I think many would disagree that they're good in the mud. Either way they are still an AT. I don't think they would be any better in mud than the bfg ko2s.

Not sure only had them maybe a month and this past snow was really the only test I have had with them. Duratracs though were damn good in the mud.

I have them in 295/75r16 and I belive 285/70r17 is the "XT" version also. For whatever reason 285/75r16 is not...

I have been very impressed with them for daily driving and offroad traction

In your case the BFG KO2 would be my top choice for sure!

The AT3 are probably one of the best options for a truck that spends the majority of its time on the pavement. That don't look as nice as the bfg's, but they will be smoother and ride nicer. They are also lighter and are more than aggressive enough for what 90+% of people here use their truck for.

My wife has cooper atw (at3 with more siping) on her T4R and they are great tires. I have the KO2's on my FJ.

He said the AT3s are one of his top sellers because of the price to performance but he also said the people he sales them to aren't looking for the offroad ability as much as like a gravel driveway or snow and if I am looking for the dirt mud and tarmac combination ( which I am) the BFGs and Nittos are his choice but he runs Cooper Discoverer ST Pros on his FJ Cruiser for offroad and and also looks ( which I like the ST Pros)

I've got the Nitto ATs and I have been satisfied with them. I'm probably like you 90% road 10% mud. My 10% comes from living on a dirt road which when it rains can become very sloppy. I did not notice road noise to start with but the older they get the louder they have gotten. Noise may be true with most tires as they age. I've put about 55K on them and think I have a good six months left in them. I'll exceed 60k miles which I believe was what they were rated but will most likely be purchasing new tires by the end of 2016. Still up in the air on if I'll go with the Nitto again or try another brand. I'm not loyal to one brand usually just price!

Honestly if your dead set between the Ko2's and the Nitto's then I would pick the Ko2's. But... the ko2's are a direct competitor with the duratracs and your talking in the same category. I am using a 275/60r20 duratrac (33") and I am still getting 20 us.mpg. The wear on the tires are going to be very close and honestly the tires have their own area's of specialty. Since I live in an area with more mud and snow, I pick the better cleaning and slightly more mud geared duratrac. If your going to be in the rocks and sand more in your offroad venture then you can lean more towards the Ko2's.
Now .... with that being said. the duratracs are 6 Lbs lighter as a 10 ply tire which will help you keep some of your gas mileage. They are more aggressive and better cleaning for when it matters and they aren't as loud as they look and thats always a bonus to us offroad types.

    Now, with that being said.

What type of offroading are you planning on doing? that will make a huge difference in the tires suggested to you.
