BFG A/T 265/70r17 (C) or 275/70r17 (E)?

    Hello,

    My DCSB Prerunner 4.0 came with 265/70r16 originally.

    I have had these for 1 1/2 years which I am selling now:

    I was originally going to install these:

    But I eneded up ordering these from SCS (Vin):

    My 265/75r16 are 10 ply & are already bigger (and heavier) than the OE 265/70r16.
    I like that the 265/70r17 is a 6 ply (47lbs), it's the same diameter of the 265/75r16, & it's a more common size..

    I like the slightly larger stance of the 275/70r17 (55lbs) but it's heavier & taller, less common of a size, & I am concerned that I'll feel the power loss.

    I tow a 4600lb boat (complete weight with trailer) & I need the take-off power.

    Any opinions or personal experiences with these sizes?

    I have these tires! I love them! I thought about going with 285/70 r17 but I didn't want a big power loss. So I went with the lower size, I'm assuming you have a 3" lift, otherwise the tires won't fit, and your front mud flaps will need to be removed, (they rub at wheel lock), I also had to install some wheel spacers because it was also rubbing at full lock on my UCA. There is a little power loss, and mild drop in MPG, but nothing that is extreme. They also look meaner. Are you going for look or use?

    I'm going for looks & use. I wonder if 8 more pounds per tire & 1/2" more in overall diameter is even noticeable.

    I have Billies @1.75 & I drove with FJ wheels with 285/70r17 GY M/T's for a week and no rubbing except for the mudflap. Weird but true.

    Basically, I wonder if the visual difference outweighs the weight & rude difference of the 2 sizes.

    i would say so. extra weight in all four corners means it has to work harder to move the truck. if your really worried about looks go mud terrains in a smaller size. you will have to deal with noise if you go that route though

    In my opinion from my stock tires they are much much better. You will notice a small power loss, and in town the energy required at stop to get moving is greater, but on the highway it works fine, I've towed some jet skis and etc, and haven't noticed a big issue. The size it kinda weird but I'd get them anyway, they look great but won't bog you down as much as 285's.

    Peter, with a 1.75" lift, your truck will look great with 265/70/17. The BFG AT has a squared sidewall look so in comparison to other 265/70/17, they tend to look larger. I think that for your use and need, this is probably the size to go with.

    On the other hand, 275/70/17 does look amazing especially with a 2.5" lift. Here's an example if you have not seen it already.

    The 285's literally raised my truck. I couldn't believe the visual difference. Now, I did notice a difference from the 265/75r16's but not as much as I thought. I think the 17" FJ Alloys weigh less than the 16" steel wheels.

    They did look bad ass but being that they are Mud-Terrains they were too aggressive for my taste.

    I noticed the BFG's squared edge design was not much more narrow than the 285 GY's. That's what called my attention to them.

    That truck you posted is BEAUTIFUL!

    Did you have to trim at all with the 275? I'm wondering if those would still work with only a 2" lift.

    That tire/wheel combo looks great. I'm planning a lift and wheels right now. How bad were your mpg hit going up to that size tire?
