Wasting money on the BFGs if not off roading. Discount runs sales every holiday so check around the fourth and labor day. I would say go for the Cooper ATPs but while Cooper does offer some rebates they are more limited than other brands. Check Discount on line and call store. I have seen cases where store prices are lower.

Just ordered mine from 4wd a couple weeks ago. Free shipping and tax free for $740. Being in California (or anywhere for that matter) would score you the same exact price off the website. Tax free and free shipping. Don't pay your quoted price. Take your time and shop

Not only do you not drive an exessive amount, you are uber easy on tires, if the OE tires lasted that long, based on treadwear only. Problem is their value in terms of compound performance was gone after 3-4 years. Maybe sooner if constantly sun exposed. So not only is your tread now an issue, the 'health' of the tire compound and carcass is too.

You betcha. Unless you like the 'I look like I could go offroad' factor.

A quality street tire will last longer, ride quieter, ride better, return better MPG. So, what's the cool look worth to you?

I bought 265/70/17 BFG KO2's in load range C from 4 Wheel Parts for $657 shipped to my door. They were running a sale on the tire and I made four separate transactions and saved $10 each time, and then there was a $50 rebate at the time. The tires have very good road manners for such an aggressive tread and I have not lost any gas mileage yet. Look around and find a better deal and DT should match the offer. The KO2's are worth every cent.

I recently picked up the Toyo Open country AT2 and really like them. Handle well, look good, quiet, and 65,000 mile warranty.

I went through the same internal debate for months and ended up getting KO2's and I love them. I have 17" wheels which I feel really matters here. I wound not put load range E tires on 16" wheels if I had them, too heavy for our trucks. Lucky for me, BFG make load range C in 265/70/17 for my new 4runner. They weigh 45.6lbs which is not bad, and the added stiffness actually makes my truck drive better, it does not float around the road like a P rated tire. It feels like it is on rails now around corners. Most people who are not happy are running E's, which are rocks.

I, like you drive a lot of street. I think most of us drive 90% on the road unless you live in the boonies. I have a job and kids who need running around, I cant go 4wheeling ever day like high school. My point is, yes I take my family to the snow a couple of times a year. Yes I like to explore trails and old ghost town in AZ. Yes I like to just rip down a dirt road like I was still 16. So, while I might drive 90% road, I still want the best tire when I am fortunate enough to have some fun with my family. Turns out, the best tire is the BFG KO2 for me. My load range C drive so nice down the road, they are actually quieter then the silly highway tires that came on my 4x4 4runner. I have faith in them when I am out exploring with my wife and 3 kids, that is worth the extra cash for me.

If my vehicle never ever saw dirt, I would drive Michelin MS2's and forget about trying to look cool

Cs. Es are way too stiff for this truck in the capacity that I use it. Beauty of the 275 is that it's noticeably larger, but no trimming is required other than removing the mud flaps. 285s would be nice, but come with "baggage" in the form of required lifts, spacers, trimming, etc., that I'm not willing to deal with right now, although a simple 2" lift is in future.

The Cooper AT/3's will take you anywhere off road that the BFG's will. They are not a dedicated mud tire, but neither are the BFG's. I no longer have the Wrangler, but here is a good photo of the spare on it.

I've had a set of P265/75/16's on my Tacoma for over 43,000 miles and will get at least another 10K out of them. They have taken me through mud, snow, ice, and still ride smooth and quiet on the pavement. I wrote the check for $550 OTD when I bought them and got an $80 rebate getting the total cost including mounting, taxes, and fees for $470.

The Taco earlier this month in Utah. I just got back from a 4700 mile road trip from GA to the southwest. I averaged slightly over 20 mpg for the trip running these.

What size are you getting? Evans Tire on Miramar quoted me $1003 for 285/75r16 installed and balanced.

James at the The Truck Shop down the street matched that and also did an alignment for the same price.

This thread got me looking at the Cooper AT3's. Discount Tire Direct has a $40 instant rebate and a $70 mail in..FWIW. I am going to see if my local Discount Shop will match that deal.

@DamnDaniel sweet look regardless. I don't know the difference either but I am shopping for some now. Can I ask how much they were?
Also if anyone wants to enlighten us on the difference of predators vs Nfabs :amen::bananadance:

I was looking into getting the predator steps but after looking into it I think I'm going with sliders instead. The main reason is if you're planning on taking your truck off-road the predator is only bolted to the cab. I believe nfab were the ones with the bolt on sliders using the stock positions. While being very nice they're stupid expensive.

I have the KO2's and though they are E-rated, the sidewalls are 3 ply and the tread is 5. They are not a ridiculously stiff tire considering the durability.

I went from a 31" road tire (Geolanders) to 32" KO2's and the drawbacks are so minor that I find it not an issue. I lost ~0.5 mile/gal and the ride is very slightly more rough. If that's because its a bigger tire, heavier tire, or E-rated or a combo of the three I couldn't say for sure. Acceleration is about the same, no noise whatsoever. It's not a world of difference.

The price you were quoted is on the top end though. They are about 180 each at america's tire. I got them for less during a holiday rebate.
