On the first gen i just sold i went directly from bfg's to dura's and the duras outperformed the bfg's hands down in the snow. On the road was the biggest difference though, the bfg's dont track very well, they seem to follow ruts really bad and wander. The duras track straight and run smooth.

I've had both tires. I just think the bfg atko are a better tire. The duratracs seemed to wander a little too much on the highway. The duratracs also have a thin sidewall. They might be a little better in the snow. I just think you can't beat the bfg atko.

Has anyone had these duratracs for 50000 or near there? I know the BFG hold there own and last forever and for now are my pick of tire.. Interested to see how the duratracs last.

My Duratracs have 50k on them now and lots of tread left. Hoping to get 60k !

I had duratracs on my jeep before I lifted it, they rode really well and relatively quiet plus they look beefier then most all terrains. When I get new tires for the tacoma I will most likely be getting them again. Also, I didn't like how the bfg all terrains looked 10 yrs ago (thinking if its been that long) and I certainly don't like them now talk about outdated.

I see all the talk of balance issues and wobble on the duratracs which is kinda scaring me off of them. I drive pure highway at 120kmh and I don't need wobble..... Is this a normal issue with these tires?

I do like the look but I don't want the wobble...

I never experienced any wobble and I had the load C duratracs. Drove 60 miles a day between 50 and 75 mph and always felt solid.

Yeah I would definitely NOT call it a wobble, just annoying hum and slight vibration similar to, but not nearly as bad, as MTs. The tread blocks are very tall and you do feel a bit of tread squirm the first 10k which is normal but I've never felt unstable or poor tracking ability even at 75-80 mph on interstate.
Also, mine are C load range.

Just did my first rotation on the Duratracs. No balancing issues with them so far (c load range). I don't understand some of the negative comments in rain either. I haven't noticed any issues in rain or going through ponding water. While they aren't as good in the mud as a true mud tire, they do much better in mud than the BFG A/T's that I had on my full size. Can't wait to try them in the snow. Probably the best combo tire (street/off-road) that I have found so far.

I've had both. The DuraTracs look better (look badass!) and were unstoppable in the snow. I was fortunate to have them on my 4Runner for the East Coast Blizzard of 2010. Best snow tire I've owned. I had the E-Rated Duratracs in 265/70/17. They vibrated quite a bit and made some noise. I would watch the headrest on my empty passenger seat shake around like a didlo, even on smooth pavement. Never had this issue with other AT tires.

The BFGs are quieter, smoother, have a longer tread life, and handle more precisely on the road. Where the GYs would wander from lane to lane, the BFGs track straight and true.

It would be a tough call if I had to buy tires right now. The GYs transform the look of your truck into something gnarly. The BFGs are better all around and inspire more confidence on the road. It think I'd be leaning towards the BFGs.

I have had my Duratrac 265/75r16 load C's for about 16k miles now and they still have bout 60-70% tread, though I have not measured them yet. I regularly checked the PSI and rotated them every oil change. I have been happy with them. They look great, performed awesome in the 1 snow storm they have seen, pulled my prerunner through a muddy lot with 6k lbs. in tow, and got me up and down some muddy hunting trails. They do hum and shake a bit on the highway. I had them roadforce balanced and the wheels have a rediculous amount of weight on them.

Tomorrow they are being replaced with 275/70r17 BFG AT KO's. I am excited to experience the difference. I don't need an aggressive tire for my DD/tow rig. Hopefully they will cure the highway wandering and last me a long time.

Just put on my first set of Duratracs after having BFG for about 100,000 kms. I drove 1100 kms in the past two days through freezing rain, snow, and mud. I must say I am very impressed. I had no problems whatsoever and tore through it all and survived the icy roads. Still slowed down a bit for safety (obviously) but they handled very well.

IMHO the BFG have too hard of rubber in them for our light trucks (provided you see more than one season). They last forever, but i had some close calls on them and always struggled on icy roads.

Costco - My last truck had over 300,000 miles, and Honda Accord 200,000 miles. Bought all my tires at Costco, and loved both the price and service. They stand behind their guarantee and if you have issues, can find the stores in most of the areas I go to. Plus you get a small rebate depending on your membership.

The debate goes on, guess it all depends on driving style, conditions, expectations.

I have had KO's on my last truck and always got 60k+ out of a set, never ever had a flat and no problems with lowering tire pressure to 15. In fact I had 2 sets, Michelin's for the summer roads, KO's for winter and off road. However after I put the KO's on, never took them off.

I am thinking I may like to try the DT tires this time as the Tacoma is much lighter, and not hauling horses and hay. The snow and off road comments sound good, the only worry I have is sidewall strength.

    I hate flats
