Should I be talked out of getting a set of BFGoodrich AT KO2 on my ’14 Tacoma Access Cab with the 2.7 4cylinder engine?

I am upgrading from the 245/75/16 Dunlop AT20 to 265/75/16 BFG AT KO2. One thing I am worried about it that these tires are that they are Load Range E. In the past I’ve always gone with the P-series or SL on my other Tacomas and 4Runners.

I know I am going to lose some MPG with the size switch.

Later this summer I plan on adding a ~2” lift with 5100’s and a Progressive Add-A-Leaf in the rear.

I was thinking about getting a set for my 2016 but I thought they would be to heavy. I was thinking in the future getting a set of 17" wheels and run a 265 70 17 BFG KO2 in a C Ply which only weights 46lbs a tire! I'm currently running a set of 265 75 16 Cooper AT3's which weigh in at 42lbs a tire and the truck doesn't seem to have any trouble getting up and going!

I thought about that... but I have the SR package with the all black wheels and I really like my OE wheels. Also there aren't too many of them around.

    Tough call.

I dropped a lot of MPG with a lift and 265/75/16 Cooper ATPs and they're P metric, not LT tires either.

Was getting 22-24 average, consistently. Now I get 17-18, sometimes 19.

    2013 DCSB Prerunner 2.7.

Whatever makes you happy man, I'm happy with BFGoodrich's Rugged Terrain T/A on my 4 banger. Gets me pretty good grip without killing gas

I have an 09 2.7L. I put General Grabber AT2 sized 265/76/r16. Runs great! Of course I did lose some MPGs, about 2-3 average. I would highly recommend the General Grabber AT2s over the BFGs. IMO, BFG is WAY overhyped and definitely over priced. I got the set of 4 Generals shipped, installed out the door at my local shop for $730 vs over $800 just the for the BFGs, then add ~$60 for install. My 09 is a PreRunner and with these tires, I have been through some nasty thick, slick, Alabama red clay and soft mud and have yet to get stuck (knock on wood). These things are GREAT!!

I know what your saying... I like the BFG AT KO2's, but I am wondering if the E-Rating is going to kill me or rattle my teeth out.

I looked at shipping tires in... but the shops (local guys) are very good at the pricing and are competitive with Online Price + Install Cost/Fees.

Even at local shops, before I decided to ship some in, the BFGs were still $35 more a tire than the General Grabbers

But hey, if you can find some BFGs for cheaper than other brands, more power to you. Just letting you know I have had an awesome experience with my General tires and did not pay the brand name price.

E rated tires are definitely stiff and overkill for the Tacoma.

My FIL has a 2500 HD crew cab, long bed, 4x4 diesel GMC with E rated Kelly Safari's and it rides like ass unloaded, and his truck is significantly heavier than the Tacoma is.

Upfront cost it seems cheaper... but once you Add Taxes (~$55) and then Shop Fees ($100)... its $950. (at least it free shipping to a Tire Buyer shop)
Local Shop was $1000 and they offer lifetime rebalance, rotation and flat repair. *this doesn't extend to shipping tires in*

I bought mine on TireBuyer.com and had them shipped to a local shop, who installed them for $60 with lifetime rotate/balance. The taxes on the set of Generals was about $40 but TireBuyer had a $20 discount for having them shipped to a certified TireBuyer installer and of course the free shipping. So total, I paid roughly $750 for all 4. I couldn't find a shop who would match that price since they were only profiting off the install, not the tires and the install.

Thanks for your input... my question isn't which tire to go with... my question is... How does the lighter weight Access Cab with 2.7L I4 ride on a BFG AT KO2 E-Rated tire? I see a lot of Double Cab V6's and many with bumpers & accessories running these tires.

    It'll ride like ass.

Will it bother you? Your call there, but it's going to be stiff and bouncy.

FWIW, mine are 285/75/16 and I have a V6...the ride is fine, but they realllllllly slow my truck down due to the weight (in addition to the heavier procomp wheels they are mounted on)
