Bump. Just a note that if you go to the tire store (e.g America's Tire Company) to get the MT/R Kevlars - make sure that the tech enters the right tire into the system - you know - the one with "Kevlar" in the name. ;)

Two hours later, I got a phone call "Hey, those MT/R's are on back-order and have been discontinued."

OK, I think we've had a miscommunication here.

Anyhow, I pick up my new meats later this week.

Lots of folks don't like the "whites out" on the MTR/Kevlar, but since it's an asymmetric tire, the tire is "supposed" to be mounted whites out. The tire installers were still willing to install it either way for me, but I'm an uptight perfectionist, and can't stand the thought of not obeying the "this side out" directive on the sidewall.

But I still didn't like the white - so as other folks have done, I got some "Kiwi Black Leather Dye" to cover up the letters. And here's my report:

    1. It's hard to find in person, figure on mail ordering it.
    2. It takes more than one coat.
    3. It comes in a bottle with a foam applicator.

At first, you'll think the foam applicator is cool, so you won't have to get the stuff on your hands. But I learned to hate the thing. It kept bubbling up the dye making it so I couldn't get it just on the letters where I wanted it. Not enough in the right spots. As my frustration and impatience got the better of me for the final coat on the fourth tire, I squeezed the bottle to force more dye out through the sponge - and that dribbled down the side of the tire. Not a good look.

So, my recommendation: Use the stuff, it works. But, for a neater job, cut off that stupid foam applicator, pour some of the dye into a small cup, and apply that with a small paintbrush. And again, the first coat won't cover the white completely. Figure on three coats over a couple days for a complete job.
