Was looking for some 255's, but they seem to only come in mud tire which suck for about any other conditions . came across the STT PRO in the 285/75/16 which are taller then the KO2 of the same size, but also a little more narrow. I didn't really want extra width, just a taller tire and something that didn't hold rocks like the KO2's. I swear I can drive from Keystone to Denver down 70 and still be throwing rocks. This are really close in size specs to the 255 KM's with a little extra width. Plus they are rated better in ice and snow than the maxx.

I have also before. It was pretty sad. The truck was slipping and jumping trying to get out of it like a RWD muscle car driving through the snow. Nothing I have gone through so far has even made my Coopers flinch at all. And I have pretty much been through everything at this point.

Did I mention they are usually lighter than BFG's?

My brother has the maxx and they kinda suck in ice and snow, the Pro are suppose to be better according to cooper.

I think that comparing two totally different tires is kind of pointless. The BFG KO2 are an all terrain tire. The tread is not nearly as aggressive as the STT Pro which is a dedicated mud terrain tire. Sure there are benefits and downfalls to both but it really depends on what you need. The KO2 would be better compared to the ST Maxx, S/T, or Discoverer AT3. The STT PRO would better be compared with tires like the BFG KM2 or the Goodyear MT Kevlar.

The ST Maxx have been great in the snow and ice for me. Not anywhere near a studded snow tire but definitely better than my old KM2s

I have been extremely happy with my st max in ice and snow. Just drove through a snowfall warning up in Quebec and had no issues. Love my tires in the winter months.

Not saying they are superior to the pros as I have no comparison but I wouldn't say they are shitty. I have definitely regained a lot of confidence in winter driving with these tires.

KM2s are a mud terrain too. I actually first thought those were KM2s in the op. They look just like them lol.

I've had experience with KO, KO2, and KM2. KO2 are a vast improvement over the KO. The KO was a bit lacking in the snow, the KO2 we can't even get stuck on snow or ice. If you drive on the road more than Offroad is say go KO2. I have the KM2 on my truck now. They have a little bit softer compound so wear slightly faster. I've found them to be the same noise level as the KOs even though they're more aggressive and it's not horrible. Great Offroad since they're a mud terrain. One thing I did have to do is get them siped for the snow but I don't have any issues with chunking.

the pro has better "winter traction" rating than the maxx and is more aggressive tread for mud. That's why I chose them

I find it a bit hard to believe that the KO2 is that much better than the KO's in the snow. The tread's architecture is still the same so the only thing I could really see making a minute difference would be the compound.

Unless they are designed differently and I just don't realize it?

My comparison lands directly between the KO and the AT3, as I have owned both (and still own the AT3) and overall am world's happier with the AT3's over the KO's.

Don't just take my word, do some research of your own, but from everything I've read the technology used to design and make the KO2 is more modern than the now discontinued KO. There are some similarities to the tread pattern, but I am pretty sure there is more to the tire than that. The KO2 has an extreme snow rating, and I am not sure if the AT3 or the KO had that or not (unable to confirm with a quick search of my own). Lots of people in the Northern US and Canada have been giving very favorable reviews of the KO2 in the snow, and since I'm in Michigan I am inclined to give them a try but I'm still looking at options. Do remember a lot of complaints about the KO in the snow, so it seems that they've improved something with the winter performance of the tire for sure. The AT3 has been on my radar though, and I'm still considering them.

Personally I love my AT3's. Excellent traction across the board, and much quieter than BFG's. I had a real hard time trying to do 4X4 shenanigans with them in 11* weather out in Lake Tahoe this last time I went.

One thing I like is the AT3 have a C-rated tire in 265/75-16, and the only other tire I've found with an extreme snow rating with C rating in that size is the Duratrac. I really wish the KO2 came in C, but only E, which seems like overkill for a mid-size truck.

what he said VVVVVV I know just by looking at them they don't seem much different, but they've actually put a lot of work into them and redesigning some aspects and they've really improved IMO.

I agree with zscott, tacoma16, my St Maxx's have been great, just looking for some slightly more aggressive.

GottaToy - are you saying that Maxx is more of a mud tire than the pros? and the pros are more of a winter tire than the Maxx's? What is you brother comparing the Maxx's to? Just curious because thats the first I have heard that they suck. Not trying to start any arguments just curious.

He likes the maxx but not so much for snow. According to cooper, the pro are rated better for winter traction than the maxx, plus a more aggressive tread for mud.

I'm pretty much sold on the STT Pro's. I will probably be ordering a set beginning of Feb. Anyone know if there are any issues with 265/75 16's rubbing?

I run same size but the maxx. Only time it rubs is if I stuff a front tire it barely touches the mud guard

While I have no experience with the Cooper family of tires, I like the look and tech a lot. Had GY Duratracs on my Xterra, when they wore out I went to the KO2, and I much prefer the KO2. Snow traction is great, quiet, smooth handle great. They are cheaper than the GY as well.
