BFG TA KO 285/65/18 on Chrome XD Monster with 3" Lift

    Just updated with front window tint. Makes a big difference.

    FYI: $60 in TX to tint.

    After some time w/o lift. I have decided to lift it at least 2 inches.

    But first, I want add bed cover.

    I thought you did some trimming? What exactly did you glue?

    Front wheels

    Rear fender well

    Thin plastic

    Tire rubs due to plastic not secured to fire wall.

    Sticks out about 1/2"

    Glued it down to hold it back.

    Reduced rub to minimal.

    Minimal rub broke glue loose.

    Now rubs on full turns.

    Will now try to use metal screw into fire wall to hold down plastic.

    Looks like you aren't rubbing much. Have you looked into Bilstein 5100 shocks and Eibach springs? If a small lift is what you want and ride quality is a concern, you should look into it.

    Did you end up going with the 285/65/ 18 or the 285/60/18? I know the 60 will fit with minor rubbing, but according to your thread 65's are the same minimal rubbing?

    I preferred the 5.7bs X +18os to the 4.5bs X -12os. See how it tucks up under the fender flare better.

    I'm thinking of going 285/65/18 or 275/70's on my truck as well. I'll probably get the 5100s and TSB for my lift. I really don't want to cut a whole lot of stuff under my truck, I wonder if adding a 1.25" spacer might help? Maybe sticking with 265/70/17's would be better and get me the same look with the spacer anyhow.. I wish I knew, lol.

    So correct me if I'm wrong, you fit 285-65-18 with 5.71bs and +18 of on your truck with no lift and minor trimming.... Please let me know because I will be all over this quickly.

    Yes.

    Just:

    Tires: BFG 285/65/18

    Wheels: KMC XD Monsters 5.7bs +18os

    Minor Trim: On Hard Plastic Rear (They will do it for you) with knife or small hack saw. Don't sweat it - no one will ever see it. The cut starts at about 1 inch back and at 45 degree angle to 1 inch in the front of plastic piece. See pic above (Lightning bolt).

    Tuck: Thin Plastic Fender Well (Glue Will NOT Hold) Must use metal screw. Option - You can cut the thin plastic, but I preffered not to.

    That's it. Your done. Drive home looking like a champ!

    You will still get minor rub 1% of the time on thin plastic piece (when making full 90 degree turns up into driveway or backing down out of driveway). A small annoyance but nothing major. Again, I will state - It is my opinion (since a do not have a lift) that even with a 2-3 lift, you will experience a minor rub on the front fender well on turn in and on rear on turn outs.

    Do not fear. Once you do it, you will be glad you did. If you dont like the minor rub - do cut of thin plastic and/or lift later. Try w/o lift first then decide. Good Luck.

    I must have read through 20 threads on here about people with 285s on their ride. Some had to chop and cut tons off even after a 3" lift to stop rubbing. Then others like jrgaither1 can slap them on and only have to trim a little bit... I think this is what makes it so hard for me to figure out.

    Here is the best comparison I can make to the difference in 4.5bs to 5.7bs.

    My 5.7bs is first pic.

    Next 2 are TW member (se7en) Copper Zeon LTZ 285/60/18 with 4.5bs


    Note: My 5.7bs does splash the side. So, my opinion is the 4.5bs must really splash side and throw rocks and debris on the sides. In the end, I personally just liked the tires under the fender flares. So, I went with the 5.7bs.

    Optima Red Top 34R, OME 885 / N140S + 5100 rear, TSB leaf pack, Camburg Ball Joint UCA, Wheelers Diff drop, AEM Brute Force Intake with filter wrap, Summit Super Turbo muffler, Llumar 5% tint, Pioneer single din head unit, PIAA 510 Ion Crystal Fogs in stock location, Sonar LED tails. Sway Bar removal. Charcoal filter delete. Stant 11509 Locking Gas Cap.
    5100's and Eibachs up front would set this truck off!

    Wow that is incredible, stuffing 285/65 without a lift and minor trimming! Great looking ride! Any issues with the UCA's rubbing the 65's?

    I think the difference here is they chop and cut a lot to have close to ZERO rubbing when wheeling.
