I have had the bfg at and i like them a lot, but on my new set of tires i got the nitto terragrapplers and really like them so far. they are a nice street tire and seem to handle nicely on the trails that I have taken them on so far. a good tire for a little less cost. i would do it again.

Anyone have or tried to Cooper S/T? Looks like BFG but cost $50 less/tire.

Bout time to get new tires and of course im stuck between these two. Ive read over this thread and others, but im worried about BFGs in the rain, and if the Duras a too aggressive for primarily on-road driving...any help would be awesome.

i have been airing down my duratracs to 18-22 anytime i hit a trail >4 rating...

i had an issue early on when i just got my duratracs with a cut of some sort in my sidewall, but wasn't structural at all..these babies handle like a gem aired down, especially in the snow...they're nearly unstoppable

duratracs handle great on the road...i went from BFG ATs to duratracs and didn't notice any road noise difference..maybe even quieter.

duratracs are killer in the rain and snow they are amazing...

outside of the softer compound compared to the BFG's, they are better tires IMO

with the softer compound i do have to be more careful when off roading as to where i place my tires, but for what you are concerned about, on-road capabilities, duratracs don't drive too like aggressive tread tires.

from what i remember, i never had any real issues with my BFGs in the rain.

I don't have any experience with Duratracs (yet), but I've been pleased running BFG A/T KOs on both the Toyotas I've owned over the past 12 years. I'm on my third set, with each of the previous ones performing well in virtually all conditions and lasting over 50K miles each. Like NYCO, I never had any issues with them in the rain.

That said, the rave reviews are prompting me to (probably) give the Duratracs a try when my current tires are ready for replacement.

I have an 08 4x4 off road and switched from the stock sized 265-70-16D BFG AT's to the 265-75-16C Duratracs about 3000 miles ago. My BFG's lasted 100k and still could have gone another 10k probably. That's pretty impressive, rotated every 5k miles at costco and mostly highway miles. Only offroading at the ranch with dry rocky terrain and beach surf fishing with lots of debree.

First thing I noticed is how much better the Duratracs rode as far as comfort going over dirt and rocks. Probably becasue of the softer compound and extra sidewall in size, as well as the C rating instead of D for the BFG's. IMO the duratracs are better in heavy rain, the BFG's hydroplaned pretty easily and when going up a hill with the texas mix of fresh rain, mud, oil on the street, they just spun unless you were very gentle with the throttle since the 08 off road didn't come with lsd. The duratracs don't have this problem in the rain so far. The duratracs are more bouncy though and they rub on front mud flap on occasion with the stock suspension, no big deal.

The duratracs hum a little compared to the BFG's. But overall noise I would say is a tie or maybe even more quiet for the duratracs. With the radio on I can't hear the hum. I read some people don't like the looks of the duratrac's but I think they both look good. The real test will be the beach though. I fish a federal park called Padre Island National seashore where there is about 80 miles of undeveloped beach with all kinds of obstacles and debree that wash up. Even a hardhead spine can puncture a sidewall. But in about 15 trips the BFG's never let me down or got stuck aired down to about 20psi. They do great in sand, the only complaint is sometimes they trac and the steering is late. But overall I have no complaints, the only annoying thing is that they are harder to balance and they vibrate a few thousand miles after balance and rotation, probably just the way they wear. I hope the duratrcas can hang in the soft sand and not dig too much because so far they have better road manners.

Thanks for the input fellas. I guess my main concern with the duras now is just how they look. I havent seen em in person so like others have said, i might change my mind.
