I've had both on my FJ Cruiser. I feel the Goodyear's are superior as well as they have a much more aggressive look. I had them put on my new 2011 Tacoma TX/TRD before I took delivery a couple weeks ago. Both are great tires and you certainly won't go wrong with either. But my vote goes to the Goodyear's

Just so you guys know when I'm at Ft.Hood during the week I see Goodyear Duratracs on almost 90% of all the military duty vehicles. Hell I see them on all the vehicles coming back from a tour in Iraq. So if the U.S. Army/DoD uses Duratracs to keep our soldiers safe that was more confirmation for me to get them as well. So far these tires are everything they are hyped up to be. I've put just over 10K miles on mine so far. And yes I have had both BFG KOs and Duratracs. The Duratracs are far superior.

Are the Duratrac considered an all terrain or a mud terrain?

Tread looks like all terrain but the shoulders make it look like a mud terrain.

FYI my last set of BFG all terrains (31 x 10.5) lasted 108,000 miles and were not dangerously worn either.

They are a cross between a AT & Mud. I beleive they are listed as an AT. As for tread life I've been told to expect about 40,000 with proper rotation.

Now I'm starting to look at the Duratrac's. Look like good tires for an "AT". Plus they are good prices

IMO ... duratracs win in the "looks" category. As far as performance, I can't speak on the BFG's, and on the duratracs I can't either, considering I just got the duratracs today. can't wait to test them out!!!

so wait, what i just discovered is my opinion serves no value on this debate. dang it.
ill get back after a few thousand miles on the duratracs.

I saw Duratrac's on a local KY game warden truck the other day, so they seem to be used in a variety of consumer and government applications.

i voted "other"...hankook dynapro atm rf10's, which just replaced the dunflops that came on my 11 dclb trd. i wanted a strong winter and wet weather performer and the feedback on the hankooks are pretty solid. they are not a super aggressive tire, but that's not what i was looking for, and i don't offroad with this vehicle, if i did i'd be throwing iroks on there.

my family has routinely gotten 100K on the bfg's, so they are definitely a good value, but i think the design is getting a little old in the tooth. do they work well, yes, i guess they do, but like someone else said, when they are down to about 60% tread, the performance really starts to degrade. there's better technology out there, i believe, than the bfg's but folks are very loyal to them.

never ran duratracs but starting to see more and more of them on the road.

I have to vote for the Duratracs - they're likely the next 3-season tire under my truck to replace the BFGs.

I've been nothing but disappointed in the BFGs from about 10k miles onward despite all the praise that everyone gives them. They wore more down the center of the tread, even with proper rotation and air adjustment using the chalk method. Since about half tread depth, at least one of them has a slipped belt that induces a bit of shake in the truck and it sounds like junk at highway speeds. They're *very* noisy on the road, and I'm really looking forward to putting my winters on so I can enjoy a smoother/quieter ride - the difference was that big last year... They also don't clear themselves AT ALL in the mud, and have had me stuck more times than I care to count.

I give the BFGs one huge FAIL and will never buy them again. Ever.

    Cheers.

I've owned 4 sets of BFG a/t, and 1 set of the BFG KMs (not the km2), on the BFGs I put maybe 60k on a set, then another 60k, I put a set on my bronco, they are at 40k miles and still look fairly new but it's 75% off road 25% highway. the taco is 75% highway 25% off road, however the mks were by far my favorite tire, took them off at 66k from my taco and sold them for $150 with maybe 15% life left. I have a set of 265 70s on my 2011 with 4k on them and I don't think I'd go with another tire but that's me just being biased, although I haven't had a reason to switch from BFG to Goodyear.

And just to back up my own experience on this, I switched over to my winter wheels/tires last week and now I'm rolling on Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V1s.

The damn truck rides like a Cadillac now! :)

Maybe I got a bad set, but come on - at least 3 out of 4 tires that just won't keep a balance for more than a few weeks and they make my steering wheel feel like a shake-weight? :p

    Cheers and Merry Christmas!

I like the BFG but every set I or my employee's balance requires a ton of weight. Nitto, Toyo and most goodyears are far superior when it comes to ride. I've alway been a Nitto/Toyo guy but I'm trying the Duratracs out. I like the winter performance aspect of them.

    .
Not to Hi jack this thread, but the last couple of posts had me wondering about something that's been bugging me, I have Goodyear Wrangler Mud and snow tires, over all i can't complain but they take a LOT of weight to balance, like 7 ounces a side, is this friggin normal?
