I am not clear on the remarks about dated tread design. If something works, why would someone change it? I think the only change should be functional and not looks. I used the KO on my GMC and got 60,000 miles each time. I plan on getting these this time as soon as they hit the store in November

what I meant by that is I need to change the traction pattern to try to gain some more advantage over everybody else changing their patterns to gain more traction.I agree if it works why change it but why not improve it they did do it to the side wall that's why the sidewalk have changed why not the overall tread pattern?

Everything is a trade off. To gain traction in one area you have to give up something else. The design of the original was pretty spot on as an all terrain tire. Great on and off road traction, quiet, great tread life, tough sidewalls.

After years of BFG on every Toyota or jeep I've owned I'm moving on.
Current build has 5 Toyo's in its sights this week.
Personally, I feel they are playing catch up with the demands that have fallen on deaf ears for at least 2 years.
BFG used to be the pinnacle and there are far to many hungry competitors in today's market.

Gotta say the new Toyo Open Country R/T's look pretty good but no 16's and they are a bit pricey. Not sure about tread life.

I thought they look good too, but over $300/tire
I just paid $189 mounted and balanced for 255/80/17 ST Maxx!
Having them put on this week
I'd try the RT's if they were cheaper

In comparison testing the Toyo RT's are new on the market but, I have not read any review that does not prefer the Toyo line over BFG. The ATII has been tested by members and many that have been raving about the treadwear vs BFG.
I am paying about 30.00 more per tire but, I am willing to pay for tread life and performance all day. My biggest complaint was the tread life on the AT and MT aside from lacking the ability to drive a straight line on hardpack snow.
Never thought I would say this but, I am looking forward to the change.

It's a design that has worked and proven itself for decades. As a DD and an avid offroader, I have set of these on my rig. They have been nothing short of great for everything I have ever thrown at them. Snow/Sand/Mud.. You name it. I have never gotten stuck in them other then high siding in my truck which was not the tires fault, it was the chassis fault.

I am not particularly thrilled about how they added a new sidewall to it and called it a new design, but until these prove that they are somehow better, I'll stick to the tried and true KO's.

This is only about an inch taller... many of us run the 265/75-16 as they do not rub the fenders or wheel wells at all, give you an extra 1/2" of ground clearance, and make the speedometer read correctly!

I almost never get a flat or one that I can't fix on the truck with a plug kit. My spare never has touched the pavement or very short distance to buy new tires.

The spare, even at 1" smaller, is a whole lot bigger than those temporary tires they put on a lot of cars! The 4WD can handle it.

In reference to consumer tires the C, D, E at the end of the tire size refers to the ply rating.

    Load Range C = 6 ply rated
    Load Range D = 8 ply rated
    Load Range E = 10 ply rated

No letter at the end of the tire size = 4 ply rating.

Here's a link to a video that explains tire sidewall writing better: How to Read Tire Sidewall markings

Some are already available. Mine are coming either tomorrow or most likely not til Monday or Tuesday. Called BF and they told me they had 23000 of the 265 75 16s in the warehouse. So I called discount tire and they said they weren't available. Told them what BF said and they called and checked, said they'd get em. Can't wait!

Well damn, stopped by Discount on my way home from work and only 1 of the tires came so I'll have to wait until Monday. Glad I got to see one in person though, very nice looking tire. I don't understand why they would only ship 1 though? Just to tease me I guess.

It will be interesting to see the actual reviews from the guys here who will be driving them off road and on snowy roads. I'm wondering how they will stack up to the Duratracs?
