Yeah I've been through some bigger rougher type terrain and still did well. I didn't air down even though I should have. Probably would have been a walk in the park where I was.

Just filled up first time with the new tires so that I could check the mpgs. I do all city driving, I lost 3mpg. I went from 18mpg with 245x75x16 street tires (came on the truck) to 15mpg with the 265x75x16 KOs. Worth every bit of it though!

When you calculated your MPGs, did you take into consideration the 4% odometer error introduced by the larger diameter tires. Multiply the miles the ODO shows you went by .04, that will add back at least a 1/2 mpg to the average.

Shouldn't you multiply it by 1.04 before doing your mpg calculations, not .04?

Yes, .04 shows what the error is. 1.04 ads it to the total.

How do you figure out the percentage of how much bigger the newer tire is?

It almost added 1 more mile. It would be like 15.8mpg. lol whatever.

    1-(old tire size/new tire size)*100 =percent of increase in tire size (let's use P)

To figure gas mileage with new tire size...I believe I may be a little off here but basically if it's a 2% increase use 1.02 for the first number.

    ((P*100)*trip mileage)/gallons=mpg

I went from 265/70/17 which is 31.6 in according to tire size calculator
    Now I have 275/70/17 which is 32.2
    So it's about 1.7% difference.
Just filled my tank today and had 14.34 gal. And 268 miles

    Soooo (268*1.017) / 14.34 = 19.0 mpg

Is this correct or should I be going from the stock tire size that comes with the truck?

I swapped out KO2s with some Michelin LTX ATs hoping the reduced resistance and few pound of weight difference would make a difference. It did not - at least not a noticeable difference. I ended up putting the KO2s back on my 4x4.

Calculation is correct but I would use stock tire size since that's what the odometer is calibrated for.

Wow. So when i correct it it's a 5.4% difference and I actually get 19.6 mpg
I really hope it's true lol that's awesome

BTW after learning this my brother and I made an excel spreadsheet so now all we gotta do is put milage and how much it took to fill up and it spits out what the adjusted milage is.
I'm happy I've learned this because now you can also calculate how many miles the truck actually has

My question now is: how does the new tire width play into the equation?
I was thinking that extra width would play into it but I'm not sure if it actually needs to be calculated in

The best way to check what you adjusted mileage is involves a GPS tracker app on your phone and a known distance of driving.

Your tire could be three feet wide and the calculation wouldn't change. I suspect your mileage wouldn't be eco friendly but you'd calculate based on the same system of circumference times number of revolutions.

Are your 265 70 17's in Load range C? If so what PSI have you found they ride best with?
