I'm thinking of getting ko2 for a third gen Tacoma. As I live in the Midwest, I have to drive long distances (1,000 miles or more) to get anywhere worth wheeling. Would the ko2 be a good tire for me, given that I'll be driving interstate for 2,000 miles and wheeling for perhaps 100?

I have 30k miles on my KO2s but I am running them on my '01 4Runner 4x4. I mainly drive them on road but have managed to have them off road a good amount also. So far it appears I have a little more than half tread depth left.

Thats good news. I just cant justify paying a premium price for something that I cant get atleast 2 solid years out of. I do about 20k a year

i'm at 5k miles and increased the pressures to 35/32 and they are behaving much better at these pressures now. Initially at these pressures the handling was squirrelly. so after a few miles the crowning must have flattened out.

I've put 14k on my 265 70 17's mostly on the road. I've still got 12/32 left of tread on all 4. Should get roughly 50k at that rate.

Anyone have any ideas on how 4 cylinder PreRunner would drive on 245/70r16's?

I bought 285/75/16 AT TA KO back around 2012. I replaced them with 40k miles (uneven wear - my fault for not rotating them) with the new KO2 same size about a month ago. I ran the rubicon trail this weekend at around 22 psi and slashed a sidewall on the freshly reopened "little sluice" in a catastrophic way. I lowered them to around 20 psi and ran my spare. I brought the tire to the mechanics' tent and he told me essentially "No way he could fix it." The next day I punctured another sidewall on my spare which was the KO. Luckily one of the rock roller dudes was able to jam 3 plugs in my spare sidewall, pump me back up, to 17 psi and I managed to finish the trail and get back home. I loved the BFG AT TA KO and they got me through the rubicon last year with no issues. I replaced them with the KO2 and I got a tire ruining flat (4" sidewall slash close to the tread). I'm not sure I'll be going back with BFG, I might want something with a tougher (kevlar) sidewall with a lower load range (I know, it seems stupid to want both). As far as the grip goes on rock/dry dusty rock, those tires were great. Everyone else was running much knobbier tires, and I kept up fine.

I think you're asking a bit much out of tires if you put a 4" slash in the sidewall... I've done the same with Boggers and KM2s... Doesn't matter how strong the tire is if you get an aired down sidewall into a rock and hit the gas.

I'm aware that it's tough on the tire, but I did attempt to avoid sharp rocks sticking into the sidewall. There's places it can't be avoided, and the tires did fine in those areas. The flats happened in areas where I wouldn't have expected it to happen (when I looked back at it, I still didn't see anything to rip open the sidewall). Several people on the trip (with a lot more experience than I have) recommended kevlar sidewalls. I may just end up replacing the one ruined tire and try to keep the spare with a patch in the sidewall. I've been wanting to upgrade to 315/75/16s in the same tire, but due to the fender trimming, I was too chicken to pull the trigger before the trip and now that I should replace 2 of the 5 tires I have, this may be the excuse to do that. I can probably sell the three good tires, since they only have less than 1000 miles on them.

Heads up, looks like discount tire has reduced k02 by 20 bucks a tire. Didnt check other sizes, but 265/70/17 C loads were reduced.
