I'm curious what your opinion is on the 265/65 in the E load. If you don't mind, please post MPG and your opinion of the overall ride quality and any effect on steering feel, acceleration or braking after you've had them for a while. I recently stepped down from the Cooper S/T Maxx in 285/70R17 which are E load and went with BFG KO2 in 265/70R17 in C load and it is a big improvement for me. The Coopers weighed 60 pounds each and the BFGs are only 45.5. I think stock tires are around 38 if I'm not mistaken. I know it's all subjective, but for me, it was a good move. Just interested in your thoughts after having them on for a while.

Thanks! I'll let you know how it goes. I already find a vast improvement of handling on the asphalt. Feels like it's really got a decent grip on the road.

Did a little light off-roading yesterday with the recently-installed KO2s and they performed great! I'm coming from Cooper S/T Maxx 285/70R17 which I mentioned in a previous post so I was already used to a great performing tire. These aren't letting me down though! I know the 285s can probably go some places with more ease than the 265s, but for how I drive my Taco, these new KO2s do just fine. Much smoother absorbing sharp ridges and rocks on the road or trail due to the more compliant construction of the BFG. I'm not hating on the Coopers at all, but for me, this is what I needed. I also wanted to update on my MPG increase because I mentioned in an earlier post that I would. I've gone through two tanks and I am seeing an increase of 2.0-2.5 MPG just from changing tires alone. I was driving the same way on both tanks. My speedometer was recalibrated with my Hypertech Speedo Calibrator to correct for tire size difference and verified with GPS to be accurate. Obviously changing from a 60 pound tire to a 46 pound tire helped tremendously as well as the shorter tire (approximately 32.9" down to 31.7"). Hope this helps anyone contemplating tire choices or sizes.

Are those 265/65 or 265/70? Just curious.

Sorry, I just noticed you already said what size in a previous post and I even asked you about it. Wow, am I really getting that old and forgetful?!

Do they rub at all? I was looking at the same setup! I saw that they make ko2's 265 65 17 like my stock tires but I've only seen tacomas with 265 70 17. Wasn't sure if it was a big difference.

I'm getting a nice steering wheel shake from 55-70 mph and unfortunately had to drive 1800 miles over the weekend with it. The tire shop used a mixture of adhesive and clip on weight on the inside of the rim.. should I have them redo or should I look for a different shop?

That sounds ghetto. Also sounds like they used a lot of weight. Road force balancing might be the best option after seeing if they'll redo it.

Really want to pick up a set of these, but am still hesitant about the E rating only offered for 265/75/16.

Why? If your worriedabout mpgs you should stick with stock highway tires or get a different vehicle. If you're worried about ride it's a truck so you should stick with stock highway tires or get a different vehicle.

Imo they ride just fine. Can I tell the difference when going from my wife's t4r with p-rated Cooper all terrians to my FJ with e rated bfgs, yes. Is it a huge difference, no so long as you have your tire pressure set at a reasonable pressure.

While it's only 1 tank.. I ended up getting 17.2 MPG on the interstate (averaging 80 mph) on my 285/75/16. I must have had a tailwind or something, since I've gotten 15 on the interstate with my 255/85/16 in the past. I'll be interested to see what my average highway (~65 mph) will be.

Why do I need to stick with stock highway tires if i'm worried about mpgs? I am worried about mpgs, or rather, i'd like to not unnecessarily deteriorate my trucks efficiency. At the same time, I DO use it in situations where I need somewhat aggressive tread. I'm currently on the lighter ply'd Toyo AT2's, but would switch over to the BFG's in a heartbeat if they came in a similar sidewall construction. I've had much more luck with KO's on my other truck than the Toyo's i'm currently running.

I went from the stock P265/65 R17 Bridgestones to the LT265/70 R16s now. I run them around 36-38 PSI. I get equivalent fuel economy as I do in the winter, running on BFG Winter Slaloms. So, one expects worse mileage in the winter due to more than just tires (colder temps, warming truck up before going, slower driving, etc), so not a great comparison, however, they really aren't the beasts in fuel economy everyone thinks they are.

On road trips, mainly highway driving, I get mileage very similar to what I got on similar trips on the stocker 17's.

In the end, it's a truck... I find the versatility of the tires is worth the trade off. On a recent trip it was great to have the beefy tires as we went up some logging roads with some pretty gnarly shale rock ready to slice into soft P-rated tires. Great to have the confidence in these BFGs.

As an alternative, have you looked into Duratecs? You can get them in a 16" size in C rating or less I think...

I have a 4 banger double cab. Looking at getting some 255/75/17 C rated KO2's. What do you guys think about this size for my truck?

I think it would be a solid choice. You will feel it a bit but not too bad hopefully. I believe 265/70R17 may be around the same weight and 1/2" less in diameter so that would be another good choice. As far as LT All Terrain tires, these are some of the lightest.

I just noticed you are an '04 so I don't know if there will be any issues with rubbing. Someone else can maybe chime in on that.
