I haven't been wheeling with them yet, so I can't speak from my experience.

This article is what drove my choice towards narrow tires: http://www.expeditionswest.com/research/white_papers/tire_selection_rev1.html

The article isn't perfect, the physics discussion is flawed and makes assumptions, but it does give some good points.

The second gen BFG AT on my Gen 2 Taco were much better than first Gen BFGs, but they still weren't great.

Yesterday I was breaking trail in only 6 inches of snow max with C rated ATs, and you could literally here the difference.

I was going to get some Falcan tires, but decided to buy new wheels that would fit C rated BFG ATs as I knew the tire well, and normally get 50K plus out of them easy.

I run the same size and do plenty of off roading as well as winter driving. I've run skinny tires for years, mostly for mud and snow, and I'm not shy about dropping tire pressure. I think it's a nice balance between decent road manners/economy vs off road traction, especially in mud and snow. There is a good argument for not having the same kind of floatation as much wider tires, but when it comes to mud and snow, if it's so deep that floatation is what I'm needing I'm not interested. If I spent all of my time on soft sand I might have gone a different way with my tires, but that's not been a big issue yet and I run pretty low on sand, 14-16 psi range.

Here's a crappy picture of yet one more size option: 245/75/16. These are almost the exact same height as stock (30.5" vs 30.6") and an inch narrower (9.8" vs 10.7"). They came over from my last truck, otherwise I would have gone a bit taller. I've got about 3k miles on them in snow (some deep), rocky trails and highway and no complaints. As others have said they are an E tire, and heavier than stock. I noticed the ride difference more than the MPGs. They were installed at 45+ psi, I like to keep them around 34-36 cold for a better ride.

Speedo still accurate with a slightly larger diameter? I know it's not much but enough to make it inaccurate no?

Unfortunately I cannot find the post(s) now, but there were formulas provided to account for the differences (for speedometer and mpg figures).

I have only had for a week or so, and am not terribly worried about being 100% accurate (at this point). I was going to discuss with my dealer when I bring in for alignment with 15k service.

These have some information regarding impact, and also some information on how to re calibrate from head unit:

I put 265/75/16’s on my off road and spidertrax spacers. I love my KO2’s!

2021 Army Green Taco Trd Off Rd - BFG KO3's 265/75/16. Bilstein 5100's all around and 1" block in the rear. 2" lift in front and 1" in the rear
Hi there, I know this is an old post but I wanted to ask you, you said you added bilstein 5100's up front. What is the middle setting 1.5 inches or 2inches? Also did you have to to do a CMC or cut some wheel well plastic when you added the 1.25 Spidertrax wheels spacers so your tires wont rub? I'm looking to do the same but do not want to cut or chop anything. I also added KO3's to my stock OR wheels 265/75/16 love how they look but I want the wheels to poke out more. Your truck looks great!

I don’t remember what setting I had the 5100’s set to. No CMC and no cutting at all.

My opinion stuffing bigger tires on stock setup just looks terrible plus u lose clearance off road so u will be rubbing the fender . Do it right lift then bigger tires . Or just stay with stock size .

Thanks. Appreciate the reply. I'm going to order the 5100's or get a leveling kit, then I'll get the spidertrax wheel spacers.

The concensus on Tacoma World is the biggest tires you can fit on a Tacoma TRD Off Road on stock wheels and suspension is 265/75/16 without rubbing or CMC. I run KO3's in that size with no issues. I want to run 1.25 wheels spacers now but know now that I need to lift the truck.

You are aware that even with a lift your tires end up in the same place? Unless you go with drop bracket or spacers.... I didn't start eating my fenders till I went to a -25 offset.

So I would not say you lose clearance. Also minimal lift as having droop and better control arm angles performs way better over all. I started at 3 im down to 2 and considering going lower yet.

Man, I love how this worked out! 265/75/16 KO3's. Bilstein 5100's on all 4 corners and a Bison off-road 1" block in the rear. 2"lift up front and 1" in the rear with Spidertrax 1.25" wheel spacers. Absolutely no rubbing! No wheel well cutting and no CMC. 3rd gen Taco's should have looked like this, out of the factory!
