We have a lot of Lance Armstrong wannabes in my neck of the woods. More power to them, although some probably shouldn't be wearing spandex:eek: Use of the road is a joint responsibility; both drivers and cyclists need to follow traffic laws and stay in their respective lanes. We have bike lanes, and, unless the law has changed, cyclists are supposed to ride single file. When they ride side by side as they often do, they encroach on vehicular traffic lanes. This often forces cars into other lanes. Not too safe. I won't risk my life crossing a double yellow to avoid them.:annoyed:

As a cyclist commuting to work, I've frequently been nearly killed by douchebag motorists talking on the cell phones and drinking coffee simultaneoulsy who pull out in front of me, merge into me, etc. And I am wearing a day-glow vest, obeying the laws, and actively keepgin myslef out of danger zones. I am sure many motorcyclists have had similar experiences.

And I have had drivers flip me off and cut really close when I am doing nothing illegal.

    Here is the deal, douchebags:

Bikes aren't the problem; people are the problem.

Are there bad bicyclists who break the law? Yes.

Are there bad drivers who break the law? Yes.

In our overweight, congested, expensive, and smoggy stressed-out world, bicycling is an awesome solution.

It's the people that are riding bikes is what i have a problem with.... Bike riders should stay in parks, neighborhoods, residential area's etc. But on streets that have a high speed of traffic, that's what i have a problem with. Same goes with jogger's and runners.. I don't wanna ruin my life from hitting a pedestrian.

Here in SF bikers' right hand middle fingers are permanently in the "fuk you" position from having to flip off all the cars that have sounded their horns as a natural reaction to all the offensive rule breaking these bikers constantly do. It's a regular thing here to be always expecting a cyclist to blow the 4-way stop at 35mph just as you start to roll. and if you hit the horn-you will get the finger.

I can tell by your bitchy little attitude-you DO NOT abide by the law as you claim. I am sure you break a few every day on the way to work.

Problem is two fold. There are dumbass drivers and dumbass bikers. I personally bike to on roads but follow all rules like a car. I find it very dangerous as a biker to be on roads because some drivers pay no attention to the road. (Cell phones, eating, etc)

As a driver, I hate bikers who do not follow the rules of the road. My biggest peeve is bikers who run stop signs!!!! People, drives and bikers just have to learn to follow the rules of the road and co-exist!

x2 for this, i bike everywhere and i follow most of the rules of the road. I admit i dont stop for alot of stop signs, but im also not stupid about it.

and true that bike lanes are made for a reason but cars and trucks are so wide now that even parked rubbing on the curb they take up half the bike lane, and if you need to get in a left hand turn lane the only way is to cut through traffic, once again doing it safely and not stupidly.

90% of cyclist that actually ride do it the safe way. that being said if the OP is talking about the people on like mountain bikes or bmx or any other cheap bike that just decide to bike across 10 lanes of traffic with out looking then i agree with the OP, and they are bitterly annoying

We have a bicycle trail instead of side walk by my house and these idiots still insist on riding on the street! The trail is specifically paved for bicycles with no cracks and is about 5 ft away from the road, yet there are some that still choose the road just because they can. These are the guys I want to run over(not really but you know what I mean). We have a ton of paved cycling trails around here, literally hundreds of miles so there is no reason someone should be riding on the road around here, yet they still do. These people piss me off...

EDIT: I have 2 bicycles one road and a 29er, So I ride a lot, just not down the street with traffic

The problem is that a there are 2 entirely different vehicles sharing one road
    1. a vehicle that the driver has to pedal his ass off and run out 15 gears to get to 35mph in about a minute
    2. a vehicle that with a tap of a pedal can get to 35mph in a few seconds.
Which vehicle do you think disobeys a bunch of laws to keep the inertia going??

x2 to all of this. I used to commute to work via bike every day. It is a double edged sword... the drivers behind the cars are also a hazard... I can't tell you how many times I was almost run off the road by some dumbass on their cell phone.

people walk on those trails all the time or bike the wrong way or something stupid and it is quite annoying as a cyclist, so yes some people would choose the street over them

    personally i would to
