Toyota has been doing 10k oil changes since 2011 with no substantial, widespread issues. BMW has been doing it for over 10 years.

Add Volvo to the 10K oil schedule as well.

So,,,,,,that may explain why my 2014 Forester used oil even after the short-block was replaced.

Wasn't the 2gr in the Lexus Is 350? My next door neighbor just had to have all pistons and rings replaced in hers, 40k miles on the clock because of excessive oil consumption and carbon buildup. Toyota covered the bill to the tune of like 8k! If its a 2gr then that explains this similar problem with the taco 2gr.

I only saw BlueD's post as you quoted him since I have that clown on ignore. If he himself would bother to google 2gr oil leak he'd see that issue is totally unrelated to this person's engine problem.

Honestly, with all the 1st year problems that debut with many manufactures, I'm glad I'm waiting this one out. I might just end up buying a gen 2 4x4 with the 4.0L 6MT... I will say I bought my wife the first year 12' Mazda 3 Skyactiv engine with 13:1 compression ratio....just a tad under 90k and runs flawlessy... always Mobil 1 0w-20 synthetic. I was more in a need to buy a car than "want a new car". Had it not been those circumstances I would have waited.

x2 - There's no way I'd want it back, I didn't pay for a new truck with a rebuilt engine.

The OP mentioned a new shortblock while re-using the heads. I'd still ask for a whole new engine tho.

If it were me they could put it in another truck and hope that buyer was ok
with it, I would not accept it. 40k for a new truck with a rebuilt engine? :D ..... No.

Ok Mr n00b, I did not say this problem is related to other problem, just that 2gr is known to have problems... if something has a history various oil leak problems means the underlying design is wrong. Yo ucan not fix somethign that has bad design with out redesign but than we would not call engine 2gr would we.... otherwise keep ignoring. :)

True. As the customer I'd be raising hell until I had a new truck. Then again, I am very vocal about this type of stuff.

You could yell all you want but as you'd know from signing on the dotted line you are accepting Toyota's decision on how to fix it as part of the warranty. I wouldn't be happy either.

I wouldn't necessarily yell. But I'd do my best to reason with them and I meant vocal as in I express my concerns. I feel sorry for the customer.

If there is an underlying problem with leaks, how does Toyota address it within in the same generation?

We've got one reported issue with probably over 10k Gen 3 trucks sold at this point. I think you might be jumping the gun with assumptions.

"very vocal" would be an understatement for me if this
were my truck. :D I think bat-shit crazy would be the phrase
    wifey might use. hahaha

Maybe the same way they addressed frame rust on 1996 trucks
