I'd be willing to bet it's more about cab/bed configuration (but not likely grade spec), so you'd have the 3577th DCLB of the line and I've got the 11,XXXth DCSB. Don't know if they'd roll the same numbers between plants.

So many variables in how they are released and numbered, but it sure isn't in exact order from 1-1,000,000 for all different configurations or geographic destinations.

Well this thread has turned into a comedy show lol. I don't expect this to be a common, wide spread problem. Just figured I'd share it. The biggest issues I've seen on 2GR's are vvti actuators taking a shit. They like to walk off the cam and start rubbing the inside of the timing cover, but this was on very early ones, like 2007ish. New models/engines/features experience growing pains, it's the nature of the car business.

Point blank, if that is a possibility that irks you, but a slightly older model that has been more proven, simple as that.

We appreciate your insight, especially when the engine is sitting right in front of you. As expected, this thread turned into a shitstorm. Instead of people saying "thanks for the info" they will post that all the 2GR's have oil leaks and are POS. We need to feel for the owner and hopefully satisfactory resolution is reached. I do agree that Toyota could pull an engine off the line and make repairs faster. But that is between the owner, dealer and Toyota. None of our pissing and moaning will help the situation.

Toyota will make it good and if they don't let us know. Plenty of us are good at trolling and creating shit storms. All it takes is a few nuts informing the sheep. They can only ban so many of my Facebook trolls at once.

This is one isolated case. Not all engines are going to be assembled perfectly. Don't get all paranoid people your 2GRs are fine. I drive mine on the redline (6,000 RPM) daily and my oil level was ok, haha.

Toyota has problems with oil leaks in every model of engine, not just the 2gr. Just about every 1zz on the road has a leaking timing cover. I just did a reseal on a 2AR oil pan today at 11k miles. Most only seep and dont actually turn into full blown leaks.

This has nothing to do with that. Im sure its an isolated case, just thing if it wasnt for the internet there would be more happy people driving their new Tacomas. Seems everyone is looking for a reason to hate the truck, buy it anyways, then bitch they should have bought an F150

This isolated incident looks to be from the short block. Now I work at the Lexus plant in ontario canada and they use the same 2gr-fks in the RX350. From what I can see the short block is the same as the 2gr-fe (previous gen RX350 ). It looks like toyota mainly changed the heads to accommodate direct injection, watercolooled exhaust manifold , and improved dual vvt-i W hardware. So this short block 3.5 has been made since 2005 and is very proven.

Brother in law had a Subaru WRX with the same problem. Instead of a new factory engine he got a hand built repaired engine with someone that was particular with attention to detail and measurements. The car has run strong and like a top for years. I think it almost an advantage to get a hand built engine out of it. You feel that tolerances are checked more carefully by the mechanic.

They are, just not the order you or others seem to expect them to. The last 6 digits of the VIN are the sequence number for that chassis code built at that plant only.

For the Gen 2/3, there are 14 chassis codes built at 3 different plants, which would typically be 42 sequences starting at 0, or approximately 42 million unique chassis codes without having to restart the sequence, which I'm sure they would do.

The 2016 Tacoma numbers didn't start at 0 for 2.7L models (because it's still the same chassis code as the 2015) and why there will be 8 2016 3.5L trucks built with the same last 6 digits. That's the same last 6 digits, not the same VIN. For 2016 there will be 2 for each chassis code (1 from each factory for each chassis code). The start of each of those VIN will be different.

The sequential sequence number restarts at 1 for each chassis code at each plant, but does not restart with every model year.

    TRN245-M000001
    TRN245-X000001
    TRN265-M000001
    TRN265-X000001
    GRN305-M000001
    GRN305-X000001
    GRN310-M000001
    GRN310-X000001
    GRN325-M000001
    GRN325-X000001
    GRN330-M000001
    GRN330-X000001

As was said, the TRN245 and TRN265 are still the same chassis as the 2005-2015 Tacoma so their sequence has NOT restarted for 2016, all 2.7L models for 2016 are continuing from where 2015 left off. Only 3.5L models got new chassis codes due to the engine block change from 1GR to 2GR.
