I was thinking about putting a quart of Royal Purple 0W-20 in it.

So do you all recommend 5000 mile oil changes even though we are using full synthetic? So far, I really like my 2016 Taco Off Road MT. I'm hoping it will be running strong like the 2.7L in my 2003 Honda Element 5sp. Uses no oil and runs just like it did when new. Original clutch even. I am expecting that kind of service from my.Tacoma....

I'd say look at your oil and you decide? I'm going with the 10k miles but i just hit the first 5k so I'm going to do it within the next couple of days because i am paranoid about what is floating in my engine with it being new and all.

As for clutch wear, that's really on the driver. I've had previous cars with manual and i drove them fine but after a long period of driving auto, it took me a while to readjust to manual on this tacoma. I've actually stalled a couple dozen times pulling out of parking lots -_-

1k mile test over, after they filled it up it didn't budge.

I'm just going to chalk this one up to low fluid levels and dry sumps from the factory, and a bit of trail driving splashing the oil everywhere and coating everything leaving less in the oilpan.

But I'm going to keep an eye on it.

It's normal for the first oil change or two. My 4Runner and everybody else's had the same.

Just an fyi, i convinced the toyota tech to do an earier oil change. Obviously i used up one of the changes but i used the "i idle a lot" excuse to get him to change the oil at 5k miles.

I went to sit in the lobby and i heard the advisor get a phone call from the tech "yes, I'm aware it's at 10k intervals, just go ahead and do the oil change. No, it will not be charged to you, the advisor will take care of it"

    Lmao

If that light comes on and stays on, it is very likely to late and damaged has occured. It comes on at a very low oil pressure.

I had a 91 Ford Ranger that had leaking valve gaskets. I had the light come on one day while cutting wood. Not one drop on the dipstick. I put 3 quarts in it and it was running fine 3 years later when I sold it.

The oil in my Tacoma is starting to darken up a little now. I cannot see a distinct oil level line but spots about 1/2" in 3 places up to the 2nd dot on the dipstick.

Update ... Oil light came on again at 8k miles and 13k miles. Running consumption test #2 right now. Mine seems to consistently burn about 1qt/3k miles, which seems a bit excessive to me.
