I recently had a Big 3 upgrade done by a car audio installer, and I regret not doing it myself because it's not a very clean installation. Since I'm about to install some accessories, I want to square it all away and upgrade the terminals, but I've got some questions that I couldn't find answers to. I'm using an Optima Yellowtop D34/78.

    1. They upgraded the battery to chassis ground cable, coming out of the battery SIDE post, but also kept the TOP post grounded with a really thin cable. Is the top ground necessary?

    2. I read that it's "advised" to keep the factory alt+ to battery+ wire, but it's really stiff and short, and the terminal doesn't allow a lot of room to attach accessories... I see a lot of pics where people don't have the factory wire anymore. Anyone do this and have tips for separating this out of the factory wire bundle?

    3. They upgraded the engine block to ground wire, but ground it to the same location at the right of the battery with the battery ground... is this right? They didn't even sand off the paint...

(in the 2nd pic, the bottom wire goes to the engine, the next wire goes to the neg battery side post, and then the skinny wire goes to the neg battery top post.)

I honestly do not see any issue with how it is done. They left your factory terminals intact they upgraded the ground using the factory bolt hole. Really and truly minus the fact that I prefer tech flex and marine grade heat shrink it looks good to go

I think they did fine. The wiring is a supplement to the factory wiring which means if you were ever in a situation where your battery died you could install any battery (not one with the available side posts) and be on your way.

Thanks for the replies guys, it makes sense now. Was just hoping to clean it up a little, but I can live with it!
