I'm not a doctor but I'm pretty sure that battery has herpes.

I haven’t seen 5 but big 4 usually involved upgrading the alternator.

I can understand if you have huge power draw and are trying to overpower the load drops in something like a 3x12+ subs audio setup, or maybe a travel trailer with it's own bank of big batteries, but if you've just got your standard 'oVrLnDr' stuff, lights, fridge, some tech chargers, is there much point going beyond the stock 170amp "Tow package" alternator? Everything is so efficient these days even high output LED bars and stuff just seems unnecessary?

Only thing I can think of is a winch but no reasonable sized alternator can put out enough amps to keep up with a winch's 500amp+ load draw, hell the engine would probably big just trying to turn them magnets.

I thought the stock was a 130 amp? My only reason for wanting that is for my electric fan which I think draws over like 800 watts at full speed. On hot days I have noted coming back the next day and needing to jump the truck so I have a feeling the stock alternator just isn’t able to keep the battery charged up with that fan going. Maybe I just need a new battery though. And to be fair the 270amp is way over kill for what I need realistically. It just looks cool :D

Fair fair big fan motors would pull a lot of amps and frequently.

I'm not sure what the stock is now but you may be right, unless 130 is the standard and 170 is the tow package. I don't remember for sure.

I know the 1st gens are only 90amps max.

Maybe I should consult a mechanic

As you can see with all the wiring my 6 year old oem battery has its taken some abuse but still works with all the amps I run through it. A combination of cold/hot weather, undercharging and overcharging rapidly. Been waiting to get a LTO battery bank setup to run my mechman 240.

$135 shipped to you anywhere in the USA via USPS Flat Rate mailer with tracking.

Initial order must meet 10 kits. If they go fast, I will open up in batches of 5.

If you're in, let me know by PM and I will update the tally daily. As soon as we hit 10 takers, I will order the materials and begin construction. I am aiming to ship NO LONGER THAN 2 weeks after receipt of materials. I am ordering from a single trusted supplier to minimize the possibility of supply chain nonsense.

Electrical noob here but what is the benefit of this setup? Thicker wires for bigger current?

Correct. It also makes the electrical system more modular, and also more resistant to corrosion than the factory configuration.

I don't actually know the answer to that question, but I do still have my factory harness, so when I make the next kit I'll let you know.
