Looks like there will be a reasonable amount of snow in Big Bear by the end of the week, so I'm planning a snow trip this Saturday. Anybody interested in joining?

    Must have-
    4x4
Mud + Snow rated tires (typically all terrain or better, no street tires)
    F+R recovery points
    Recovery gear
Tire chains recommended (likely to have road restrictions)

Meet at the trailhead of 3N16 and Hwy 18 at 9am.
    Trailhead for 3N16 is here:
    N34 17.620 W116 48.810

Pack a lunch and dress warm. :spy: Temps show to be around 30F during the day.

Post up and let me know if you would like to join.

Thanks for the heads up. We have a stock 100 series LC with us, so I'm trying to stick with some of the easy trails.

I've got friends that will hit up Gold, but we'll probably just stick to 3N16, 3N12, 2N71 and where ever else we can find the deepest snow.

I was just up there yesterday. A buddy and I took Burns Canyon up to heartbreak ridge. On the mountain most of the snow is melted on the sides facing the sun, however on the shade sides there was around 4-6 inches. I can speak for Gold since we didn't hit up that trail, however heartbreak had snow in the shade. Wasn't too deep I would venture to guess 2-4 inches.

I'm one of the lucky ones that works weekends. But the upside of that is anytime I go up to big bear wether its to wheel or hit up the bike park in the summer, theres not a whole lot of people.

That's a big plus for sure...I was up in Big Bear about a month ago when they got their first real snow of the season, and holy crap was it crowded...getting down off the mountain on Sunday took nearly 2 hours just to get to the highway, there was so much traffic. Sucked big time, but this weekend I'm hoping to take fire roads from Green Valley out to White Mountain, or I could come up the back way from the desert side (much less traffic coming that way).

38 is a nice drive if you're coming from the Coachella valley like I am, especially when you hardly go into Big Bear. 18 for me is around the same drive time and its crazy how fast you climb on that road.

We usually try to make the most of the day and wheel until 4-5pm or as conditions allow. You are welcome to cut out early if needed.

Going up there this Sunday, anyone know of any good sledding spots for kids? I'm thinking about exploring the Holocomb Valley area.

Holcomb Valley should have some good spots, I'd image if there's enough snow (which there should be), then some of the other camp grounds away from the city/lake would have some good hills with less crowds. Maybe try Big Pine Flats, or the Green Valley area

I'm kind of anxious on how the traffic up there is going to be since this snow storm will probably be the only good one of the year. I imagine half of So-Cal has the same thought. Know of any good off-road trails to get up there to bypass traffic?

Hopefully Green Valley Rd isn't! Might have to turn around and go the back way from the 15 North if it is

That's what I figured, only other option is being up before everyone else.

Just be prepared for a long trip home, getting down the mountain last month when it snowed was a nightmare...took us a couple hours just to get to the highway at the bottom. No accidents or anything, just a lot of cars leaving at once. I'd suggest going down the back of the mountain to the 15 freeway, I suspect that's the less popular option so less people will be doing it

I'll be up there Saturday with some Toyota's and our Jeep. I think there was talk of running these similar trails. Say hi if you see us.

Wait, you're going up with Alex right? I'm meeting you guys at the Valero station off the 18 :fistbump: Plan is to do White Mountain and then Gold Mountain if there's time, assuming both trails are open/accessible.
