Gonna be heading up there with the family on Sunday... Should I be concerned about chains???? I'm on 285 KO2's with 4x4

Bring them just in case. I don't think they're expecting more snow on Sunday but there should be plenty from today/tomorrow. If they are requiring chains, you'll have to show that you have them with you even if you're 4x4. Don't have to put them on (unless it's really bad but it won't be), but if conditions demand it then they will ask you to show them that you have them in the truck.

Gotcha... Any good chains I can pickup from O'reilys/Autozone youd suggest? Not too familiar with them (I live in Glendale...need I say more lol)

Neither am I lol....last year I knew I was going to have to show them so I just went to Autozone but they only had one set for my tire size, and they were expensive $120 or so. And they didn't take returns on them :annoyed:

I hear that Wal Mart has a good selection of cheap tire chains, and they do returns. Honestly they didn't check to see if I had the right size, just that I had chains. But that was last year when they had a HUGE snow storm...I don't think it's that bad this weekend but it's better to be safe than sorry. Buying them up on the mountain will be super expensive.

Definitley agree with you on there... As long as I can return them I'm a happy camper... Do they come as singles or pairs or as a set (4)

There is no new snow here yet. Only 4-8 inches expected between now and tomorrow night.

You think they’ll have the roads cleared by around 9/10 AM Sunday?

Not that it matters because I’m not going up tomorrow, but idk if I have enough armor to do Golds Mt. in the snow.

No idea. Don’t see why not. The road conditions are never the problem up here though, it’s all the idiots that have no idea what they are doing that’s the problem.

Once you purchase chains you can't return them..
Buy the Z cable chains, they cost more but are worth it. Have them for 2 of my 3 vehicles and on a 3/4 ton work van with no fender clearance less than 5 minutes to install both. Worth the extra money compared to the actual real style chains I use on my 3rd vehicle that has plenty on fender clearance to install and are a pain in the ass and take a bit longer

Video from our Big Bear trip this Saturday in the snow storm...completed White Mountain and did about half of Gold Mountain before it got way too snowy and icy (and dark) for us to continue. I had to get winched off of the 3rd main obstacle on Gold before heading back down.

Oh, and I blew a CV axle right after getting past the CHP chains checkpoint going up the mountain. Fortunately, I brought my spare and someone else in the group had the right tools...we swapped it out in about 30/45 minutes.

    Thanks @*TRD* for the video!!

Big Bear turned into a quick little lake next to Pyramid/Gorman/Frazier Park day trip... Topped it off by handling a freak accident on the East 210 waiting for CHP and LACFD

Nice! I've been wanting to hit up the Frazier Park/Lockwood Canyon area in the winter time...they usually get some good snow, too. MJT is a really fun but difficult trail out there, but they close it down during the winter months unfortunately (probably for the best).

What happened with the wreck? I live right off the 210 E just outside of Pasadena

some guy side-swiped this poor older Hispanic couple in their Prius, they ended up doing a few spins through a few lanes and came to a rest blocking the 2 far right lanes just short of the 2 South ramp... I pulled up right after it happened in my truck going home, assessed the situation, set up a flare and a traffic cone, and then checked them out while the other driver came by, then ditched his vehicle and fled. Haha even though I blocked the emergency lane with my truck by angling my truck, someone blew by past right behind me while I was getting my flare out from the rear passenger side and almost hit me...
