A little late to the party here but, if you're planning on camping in any of the three Park campgrounds and don't already have reservations, you probably won't be staying within the Park. The week of Spring Break is the busiest time of the year there. You'll also have little chance of grabbing any of the backcountry roadside sites; these aren't reservable but are usually gone by midweek as are the non-reservable sites in the developed campgrounds. Backcountry dispersed camping is allowed in a few areas of the Park but these are well away from any roads. You definitely cannot just pull over to the side of the road and set up camp anywhere within the Park.

    Reservations are made at http://www.recreation.gov/unifSearchResults.do

Gas and limited supplies are available within the Park at Rio Grande Village and at a station near the central Visitor Center. There's a fairly decent restaurant in the Basin.

Without reservations, your best bet will be one of the commercial campgrounds on the west end in Study Butte or Terlingua. Goggle should turn up something on these.

Make sure you have at least one good spare (two is better), a good patch kit, a pump and basic recovery gear. Carry extra water for drinking and for your radiator. Most of the back roads aren't too challenging unless its rained recently. Black Gap will be the roughest and River Road may have some deep sand in spots. Big Bend Ranch State Park has more difficult roads.

La Kiva is a local watering hole in Terlingua worth a visit and the Starlight Theater there has surprisingly good food. Have fun and post back with a trip report.

There isn't a link, it's just thousands of red necks wheeling at the Canadian river

    And yeah, quite literally thousands

We can stay at an RV park or a camp ground in Terlingua. @ScTuna, i bet you can have campfires there. We can also grab breakfast and dinner there and fuel up and use the john.

@CedarPark, i told you i would have a winch for the trip, but i don't see the point of investing in a winch just about now. Just FYI.

Do you guys have CB radios? Are they worth getting? I rather have that before a winch.

Yes, 100%. In Lubbock we require you have one to take extensive trips with them.

Cool. I was thinking that it would be easier to meet up with you guys in Big Bend with a CB. Any recommendations on CB Radios?

I have a Cobra 19 (cheapest Cobra) and with a lot of tuning and expensive supporting parts it's fine. I'd recommend a Cobra. 29 if you have room. Be sure to get a tuneable antenna

Ok. Thanks. How much $ am i looking on spending for it?

Also, where are we going to stay? Looks like Big Bend is completely booked. I'm going to check out campground in Terlingua next. I'll also call Big Bend to determine if there's any room.

Fellas, I've called Big Bend and the surrounding campgrounds. Seems like everything is booked.

Now there are campsites in Big Bend that are "first-come-first-serve," like all the back-country campsites and some in the Big Bend campgrounds.

We can either risk it and hope to get a backcountry campsite, sleep in our cars, or reschedule our trip. We may be able to get a back country campsite, but it is Spring Break and they're likely going to fill up quick.

    What are your thoughts?
