Just returned Sunday from a short trip. I have to say for Texas, it’s a trail riders dream! Never took it out of 4WD until i hit pavement back to Presisio.

So, if memory serves, the northern portion of the park is well used and trails are clear, mostly. But there will still be “tight” spots. Expect trail pinstriping. What does your load out look like as far as recovery gear goes? Also, do you plan on exploring the park?

Highly recommend driving Fresno Canyon - petroglyphs, ranch ruins, year round springs. Getting anywhere in the park takes a while but it's all amazing. Be prepared for pinstriping and sharp rocks in the sidewalls. I saw a notice recently that the Saucedo Station is temporarily not carrying ice.

On Google Maps, you should “download for offline use” the map of the area before you go. It’ll help navigate. Unless you have another trail application. The cell reception is sketchy, at best. AND buy the topo map for $11 at the station.

The Saucedo station has ice again. At least, as of Sunday.

Went to Big Bend this summer as the first leg of a 4 week road trip. It did not disappoint. Tons of pretty easy but super fun driving out there, from what I found.

Definitely agree with ensuring you have your map and comms plans figured out well in advance. I did not and ended up having to wing it, traveling solo, in some situations that would have been a lot more fun if there was not the pressure of not being as prepared as I should have been.

Bring water (duh!) and bring your own shade, because there isn't any out there!
