Wanting to go to a '20 or '21 from my 2016. I have had zero issues with my truck. Guess I got lucky. Been looking around. Anyway any big difference between the two years in quality. Are most of the '16/'17 bugs worked out? Thanks for any info.

Can't speak vs a 2016 personally, but my 2020 has had virtually no issues so far. The big thing for me in waiting on the 2020 was the power seat and updated headunit with Android Auto. Supposedly the transmission shifts better in later model years, but I haven't driven a 2016 to compare. I haven't heard of any 2021 specific issues.

Thanks for the reply dan33410. Trade values are really hot in my area right now. I was offered $4000 less than what I paid for my truck 6 years ago. I almost fell out of my seat at the dealership. My truck only has 61,000 miles, and I have been so lucky . . . zero issues SO far! Would like to get a '21 but there is a '20 off road in VooDoo Blue with 14,200 mile on it at a dealer fairly close. Thanks again!

I drove a 2018 OR TRD DCLB for 3 years and 30,000 miles before someone rear-ended me. I picked up a new 2022 OR TRD DCLB a month ago and just crossed the 1,000 mile mark yesterday. The new ride is quieter and the different Goodyear tires are smoother. The best difference is the transmission, the one on the 2018 truck would hunt gears in hilly areas and hang on to low gears and high RPMs, like 4,000+, for far too long. The new truck is happy going 78 mph at 2,000-2200 RPM and I don’t think I’ve gone over 3,500 RPM going up hills.

No issues at all with my 2021, now with 10K miles. Son just had to have the throwout release bearing replaced on his 2020 with only 23K miles. Consumer Reports likes the 2021's :)

Traded a Metallic Black, 2018 in for a 2020 due to the gear hunting issue of the prior, plus I wanted the Quicksand color. The 2020 is darn near perfect as far as drivability. Zero issues at 16K.

I would say relaying on owners inputs is a little on the weak side. If they had issues with the the speed the windows went down it would be the reason they said it was junk. Mine had a noise in the front diff early on, Toyota replaced it basically end of story. Stop an actual owner in a parking lot and ask them!

My 21 drives identically to my buddies 17. No real difference in driving characteristics

I've only had my 2020 for a month the biggest issue so far the previous owner let dirt cling to the exhaust which doesn't look to great now at 41k mi, after that it needs the bushing on the drivers side(on the way). Drivability is comparable to my 89 YJ 4cyl before the front locker was installed, mileage is the same but this one has ac and heat with cruise control straight out of the stone age for me lol. Came with a set of Iron man all terrains which do me good on the beach and behind the dunes. Really cant complain the drivers window does hang at about an inch and a half from the top in the mornings, but after baking in the sun out in the parking lot all day it slides down no problem. Looked up the service list on toyota owners site and this is a problem it has had since the first owner so yeah.
