I'd be down just working on my Taco trying to get it off road worthy. That being said what are items that would be critical for the trails here on big island.

well, depends where you go. I would think skids would be a good start. a small lift and some beefier tires would be good too.

Throw out some dates. if im free im down or ill try set it aside.

Went thru mana road a few days ago and it was real dry. No 4wd needed at all staying on the main road. I dont think ill make it all the way around on r1 but maybe I can catch you guys up there and do some hunting.

Dont really need much but you should always have extra tools, first aid, tow strap/chain, water….usually have most of my tools with me, floor and bottle jack, one or 2 spare tires, a tarp or two, come along, tire plug kit, mini air compressor. I do carry a bunch of stuff that I dont need, camp stove, sterno, buncha food and snack stuff, blanket, but its always better to be more prepared. Been many places with stock vehicles but you never know when you may need it. my trucks only 2wd but ive gotten myself in some tough situations. Bought a winch and never installed it, theres a few times where it would of come in handy.

braddah here gets it. for real, i carry some basic tools, air compressor (viair 300p) tire plugs, cooler with ice, water, snacks, beer, ect. 7 gallons of water (the blue travel jug from walmart) shovel, tow straps, jack, DUCT TAPE, ZIP TIES, super glue, jb quick weld loc tite. I can't tell you how many times i fixed shit on my Civic in high school with duct tape, zip ties, and super glue lol.

main thing is to be prepared. if you're out on R1 or Mana road and you get fucked, you never know if you will have signal or when the next TW braddah will come by to help.

yeah, you never know what will happen. if you go someplace close like maks, no need worry too much. get friends and things are close. but if you go someplace where only menehune's go, then you should bring some more stuff

Not sure, it squeaks a lot (to me any way). That's the main reason for upgrading.
We could talk stories when I get the new springs on.

I appreciate the insight. So much to consider and as a noob looks like I got to read up on it more. Right now I'm working on upgrading my lights. Just picked up the morimoto HID and XBs. Now just trying to find the time to get the installation done.

Man I really should carry a shovel too. I dont know why I dont pack that, but those other things you added are pretty mandatory too! I also do carry those in abundance. Cant even say how many times duct/mule tape, zip ties, super glue, quik weld has come in handy with my experiences. Hah, honda life is when the eg or ek bumpers rip off on the ends going over curbs or reversing on something, straight poke hole and zip tie! ive even carried plywood, 2x4s and ramps just in case. One of the things I still have but never use is a work light that has alligator clamps to the battery. I do have one of those power inverters, which I sometimes run 2 led snap on lights, but other times come in handy to charge things. I still have a bunch of various cups, utensils, condiments, dive/fish gear, trash bags, clamps, ropes, all kine stuff piled up threw the years. I still rock the older trucks so I tend to carry some spare parts...u joint, tie rod end, shit ton nuts and bolts, light bulbs, even had to use of a bottle cap to crimp wires and electrical taped it. I also do carry in my tool box a bunch of wiring/wiring things, have a container of heat shrink. If im going places I do carry most of my tools I own with me, although it may be overkill, but never know who may have needed something. One night up mana road we ran into someone stuck on the road, my friend didnt have straps and the other people ended up cutting couple of there rear seat belts so we could pull them out. Better to be prepared.

Always wanted to do rock lights, thats kind of on my list to do. Wouldnt mind doing more storage and a swingout too.

Not too long ago went down Waipio and had this dodge that wouldnt run. they had been there for awhile but none of them had a strap or the right tools. Let them use my strap and told em come drop it off to me in the valley. Some times it blows my mind people people dont carry certain things. I think vehicle fluids, jumper cables, tow strap, road side kit is stuff should always have inside your vehicle.
