I'll try go by this weekend. the only thing I know is that DLNR been cracking down on UTV/ATV's:
    https://www.westhawaiitoday.com/202...-keep-offroad-vehicles-off-roads-and-beaches/

used to own a Polaris 6-seater to take my 'ohana down to Makalawena and all the other hard-to-access beaches, but sold it cause DNLR was hassling us too much. if they did shut down access, it's probably cause the camp sites and beach was getting trashed from too many people going down and not cleaning up after themselves.

So I called some island gov offices, and the consensus seems to be that the maks road is not owned by them, so if there are cement posts, it wasn't them because it's private property (owned by kam). I assume, by extension, they also can't screw with you 'til you get down to the beach (when it becomes public land). Therefore, if you parked your SxS not on the beach, you'd be fine by DLNR but then you have the private property to worry about since everything around maks except the hiking trail is owned by kam

Did DLNR only hassle you guys at the beach, or at the beginning of the maks road too?

Drove past a week ago and there were plenty of vehicles down by the gate so I’m guessing not.

at the top of the road, before going down off the highway. more than a few times both DLNR and HPD was there giving warnings. heard they did they same for Keawaiki (where we also used to go) and Mana Rd. and yes on the KS land part. it's all KS til the bottom, but not sure if that parking area is considered the public land or KS.

yeah. i'm not even sure if they knew what they were enforcing, but it they were telling everyone on SxS's that this is the first warning. next time would be "enforcement" which I assume would mean tickets. they got pics of my friends truck and trailer on file cause the next time they tried going somewhere else, DLNR pulled it right up and told them there's no warning this time around. the problem is too many people being reckless and letting kids drive all crazy. that's pretty much why we never go Mana.

Right now my Tacoma is down….Rear E-brakes is locking up in drive…getting it tow to dealer Jan 19 for repairs..

Are you a shoreline fisherman? Would be nice to see a 4x4 club in Kona? Or just Toyotas?

It happened a couple of times to me within the first few weeks of ownership, specifically after washing the car and leaving it over night. Every time I wash it now I go for a drive around the block.

The only thing I can think is the cable in the housing or a spring in the drum rusts slightly and doesn’t release the shoes.

My fingers are crossed for you and it turns out to be something simple…

Wow ..even your 2020 Tacoma is having the rear brakes lock up too…. This must be a bigger problem…?
There was a brake recall for the 2016-2017…and read a few problems with the earlier years of the Tacoma…

More people will need to be heard, and this problem be reported…before any major accidents or deaths occur?

I read about other Toyota cars..& other late models having brakes issues too…

too bad our Tacomas didn’t get rear disc brakes? Maybe this could have solve the issues?

So far ,only on the forum’s we hear of others with rear brakes locking up…. I do not dare drive my Tacoma on the roads..till it can be fix…( this coming Wed- will be at the dealer)

Please let your Toyota dealer be aware? Because your rear brakes that occasionally locks up ..May become more problematic? Mine did !

if a car wash creates the rear brakes to lock up…wait till it rains or snow ? Or driving thru mud and water crossings..?

Thank you for sharing…. Any one else experience this even if it happens once or rarely..? This rear braking locking up May start to happen more often
    Aloha, …

United we stand…for our own safety…

Just to be clear the brakes don’t lock up whilst driving.

Intermittently after a wash and the car sitting over night the rear parking brake will occasionally stay in the locked position even though the parking brake handle has been released.

I in no way feel unsafe driving the car…

I wish what you mention …brakes do NOT lock up while driving….? Not true…it locks while I am driving !

My Tacoma is in drive..moving forward……lucky I am getting this lock up brakes ..on our coffee farm dirt/ rocky road…driving at slower speeds…I have not taken this truck on the highways yet…

Tuesday I have to drive to the top of our hill…where the main highway is located…to be towed…

When I am moving it will lock…and also many times on the turns…the brakes will lock…then I go in reverse to free the braking…

You mention it cannot… My Tacoma while driving….the brakes do lock! Yes I am a bit frustrated and disappointed with Toyota’s engineering…

Note: why do you think after a car wash the E- brakes lock? This should NEVER happen to any vehicle…
….I never came across anything like this…brakes locking up..especially after a car wash…. When it rains…can this happen too…?

When it happens to you..and you experience this…. Just because they say it cannot happen ..doesn’t make it true..about brakes cannot lock up in drive…. Mines does! Lock’s up while driving!
I wish you can be here and drive my truck…I just might make you a believer!
    Aloha

Please let your Toyota dealer know! About rear brakes locking up… if it happens to you!

    Yes…. Happens in 4-H & 4-L . Most 4 wheel drives…turn one front wheel & one rear wheel…
It also happens in 2-wheel mode…

I have been searching for answers? Or solutions….on the web….so far ?
Maybe something is broken in the drum brakes? Won’t know till the mechanic can check it out..
Someone mention..replace the rear e brake cables?

For those who do experience a rear brake lock up? You should be asking “WHY”. There must be a solution?
The first time it happen to me? I thought maybe I did something wrong or “a glitch “. In the system?

Kinda sounds like an multi terrain mode or abs problem not park brake.

My park brake also locks up after washing with brake set overnight. This is nothing new with drums. Happens all the time with semis.
