You maybe right…I won’t know till the mechanics check it out?
Does it really happen with Semi trucks drum brakes too? Never heard and trucker mention this before?

I won’t not be surprised if connected to the ABS system…. Before it got worst…I did try my crawl control for a down hill descent…. When I learn it work great for those steep hilly down hills…and also they say you should always activate / run your 4x4 system every month or so…to keep it from freezing up from non-use..which I did..

shortly after , my locking up brakes got really bad…while driving ..
    Thank-You…

I click on google ..”Do drum brakes lock up after a car wash “…..turns out many, many, people experience rear wheel lock up from hand brakes…after sitting…due to rust forming on the brakes…even rotors..
Once you get moving it clears the rust…I think on rainy days..when you park…the brakes are still hot and no rust is form..

We had many rainy day this past months, our dirt roads, gets very muddy ( some place deep puddles)…very short drives..so my brakes do not get hot enough to dry the moisture? I wonder could this be the problem?

At the same…even on those very short driving around the coffee farm..my rear brakes still locks..while driving..
I will let you know , after I taken it back from the dealer…maybe this Wednesday or Thursday if they can find the problem?
Aloha …I wonder what the “cost” will be? Or if they find and solve the problem?

When mine lock up I stick a price of wood thru the wheel and give it a few wacks with hammer, frees them right up. Once the shoes break free of the drum everything returns to normal. This is not your problem and I bet your dealer will say that they cannot duplicate your problem and send you on your way.

My rear brakes do release in reverse…but as I move forwards…it will lock up..more or less while driving and on turns..

To duplicate….All they need to do is shift to park… pull up hand brake..shift to drive…press gas..then release hand brakes…they will find the brakes locking up…. Happens to me..

but until I see the dealer (tow to tomorrow to Toyota dealer). We will see what happens?
    Thanks for your input…

if you have to put a wood thru the wheels and hit with a hammer? To free the brakes…? You really have a big problem? This is NOT normal…. I do carry a hammer…but may need a piece of wood..Lol
    Aloha,

Toyota owners..many will never experience the rear brakes locking up…for those that do? We got a huge issue to settle with Toyota? They need to find a solution or solutions to this problem..?
    Aloha,

one thing for sure if Toyota is unable to solve this…? May have to choose ? ..others?
    Aloha

Ive attempted to shore fish but I can only catch hagi and wrasse, Ive only lived here for 2 years so its a big curve for me from sand bottom and a little wreck fishing to reef fishing. Definitely up for meets on this side though.

Congratulations on catching some fishes….The “Hage” is one of my favorites eating fishes…. Have you ever gone Mempachi fishing ….? There are several spots we like to go too.. inside Kona Airport….
The Ulua fishing is slow over there…so we focus mostly the small game fishing…

I will be glad to go fishing with you & your partners…. I am a old man now…any type shoreline fishing …next is getting a heavy plugging pole & reel…had my son’s one for awhile…

Mostly Dunking & handpole…We tried to pick Opihi’s if the surf is low…. Are you into Ulua fishing? & Ulua Tournaments?
    Aloha
The mechanics said I had water in the rear end…they order a new 3rd member and cannot air freight due to oils (hazmat) …2-3 weeks for shipping? Estimated $3,300.00 +..? Maybe middle of February?
Also order a ARB diff air vent…from R4T’s…you may want to consider getting one too..?

$3,300… you could do front and rear gearing for that. Doubt they covered with warranty.

Yes your are correct….if I did re-gears to 4:88 ,I could have done both front & rear…for almost the same cost…They Big island is large. But small in sense for having expert rear end mechanics…
Yes I have NO warranty because of water incursion…as told to me by the Toyota dealer…

We do not have a lot of expert mechanics , compare to islands like Oahu & Maui ( Maui Off Road)…

Even our local Toyota dealer…”cannot be trusted” …told to me by people who caught them ….like my wife’s co-worker…sitting outside for her car to get service…2 hours later the mechanic say your car is done! She said what? I been sitting in front of my car for two hours….and no one ever took the car…she call the Hilo Manager…whom she knew..and he told her “What they are doing this again?”

I like the color too. Nice background really highlights the Tacoma.

I have a 2019 TRD LB , aftermarket 6112s & 5160 + icon 1.5 AAL. SPC upper control arms. Rock sliders, fully armor under neat. 275/70/R17 BFG A/T

Built mainly for shoreline fishing. I have not taken it to the places I go too yet. CFC42DB2-5D36-46D4-A7F2-6D2022DFFA7F.jpg

Looks good! I originally ordered a TRD Off Road in February, and was told there was a 6 month wait. After 3 months the dealer called me and said Toyota cancelled over 300 orders due to lack of parts, including my order. But they had a TRD Sport coming in from a cancelled order, and would I want it? So I jumped on it, and glad I did!

If you are looking for interior lighting? Check out MESO Customs , LED lights. One of the better MODs I did for my truck. Also the middle pocket, I added the TRD coin box from MESO customs.

These are a few aftermarket companies I like working with, MESO customs, Cali Raise ,CBI, RCI , Shock Surplus and R4T aftermarket companies that I have made purchase from.

I notice the Kona Toyota have no inventory and every 4x4 they receive is sold. Even the use ones are pretty pricey and are quickly sold.

Hilo side - Hawaii campers. I like the the higher back campers , more room! Also got the pop out side windows, making it easier to reach inside the bed from the outside. If you might be carrying people or dogs in the bed ? , the pop windows can be order with a sliding glass/screen door too. Or just sliding window with screens.

Ordering any camper today. Must have ! The inside camper window you will want sliding glass door , plus also the whole inside rear window be removable ( for window cleaning ).
The space between cab and camper is too tight!

I can remove my camper inside rear window and clean the outside cab windows of the Tacoma, and also clean both sides of my camper inside windows. THIS IMPORTANT!!! Worth the cost!

plus any thing gets caught between you be able to remove the debris. I get tree leaves and branches in between sometimes, I live on a coffee farm with huge trees.

Best to call Hawaii campers, near the Hilo stadium, across the street. They will install it for you too. They were great people to work with.

Note : To remove the inside rear window are two top clips, un clip, lower window towards you and underneath is clip bottom to remove, you can keep the bottom clip holders on. Easy to do!
I got the Leer fiberglass camper top, they can paint the camper to match your truck . $300-500 a few years ago.
The price was $3,500 out the door. With pop out windows, and the removable inside rear windows , plus the locks
